I just got Optik, but if Telus doesn't get it in the next two weeks I'll be switching back to Shaw!

I called Telus and they don't think they will be getting it...WTF?!

Anyone know anything differently, now that Shaw's got it?

You're honestly going to cancel the excellent Optik service, THAT you only just got I might add, and switch back to an inferior service for one stupid channel????? (and yes, fromwhat I've read about SNO and what it will air, it IS a stupid and very over-hyped channel by Rogers)

This panicking over 1 channel is pathetic. Seriously. I'm a DIEHARD Canucks fan. Season Tickets, subscribe to Center Ice, you name.

But this is borderline ridiculous with the amount of panic that people are going through for 9 regional games.

People are applauding shaw for what? Bending over to Rogers ? Sure, it's not going to be "extra" right now but I wouldnt be shocked to see the overall price of your bill go up. There's always a catch.

Not too worried. Worst case scenario is going to a bar or streaming online.

People REALLY need to relax.

It was the same thing when everyone was haggling over TSN2. It took a little while, but eventually everyone started carrying it. It may take until hockey season starts, but I have no doubt all the major carriers will be carrying it.

Not a reliable source but from one of the hockey message boards I regularly frequent:

So I just got off the phone with telus and Optik will hold the SN1 free preview starting SEPTEMBER 22nd on these channels:
Standard Definition: 106
High Definition: 677

The operator I was talking to told me that they were told this today.
EXHALE.

I really wish all the providers would have said FU to Rogers. Its pretty clear Rogers want everyone to carry Sportsnet One, and wanted everyone to pay a high premium for it. If all the providers would have said no, the Jays rating would have stayed at the bottom, and Rogers/Sportsnet One would be loosing money hand over fist.

Now that one provider picked it up, pretty much all the providers have to.

Edmonton will get all-sports cable channel

Shaw, Telus, strike deal for Sportsnet One

By Bill Mah, edmontonjournal.com September 16, 2010 1:02 PM Comments (4)
EDMONTON — In time for NHL hockey — and Edmonton Oilers’ fans — Shaw Communications and Telus have announced viewers will be able to watch Sportsnet One.

The Calgary-based cable provider Shaw says it is the first to offer the new all-sports channel in Western Canada on Shaw Cable; and Shaw Direct is currently the only provider to offer the channel nationally.

A deal to carry the channel by Telus is being finalized, but until then customers will be able to preview the channel, said spokesman Jim Johannsson.

“We’re just days away from offering Sportsnet One on a free preview basis,” Johannsson said.

On Telus, it will be available on standard definition on channel 106 and 677 in high definition.

There will be a national feed, a Pacific feed available only in B.C. and Oilers and Flames feeds available in Alberta only.

Pricing is still to be determined.

“For the initial preview, it will be added to an existing theme pack at no extra charge. The caveat is our customer already has to subscribe to that theme pack,” he said.

who cares if you have to pay a couple bucks a month for it....its still cheaper than $15.95 per game for a poor HD production of the games like you would if they were PPV. The production quality and on-air people will be better than that of the in house crap we were getting from our respective Teams.
