FIFA's Club World Cup semis & final are on this week. In the recent past, TSN had the rights. Last year, it was on fubotv. But with FIFA launching their own streaming service last year, it appears that for about 50 countries including Canada where the rights fees aren't significant or not bidded upon, the matches can be seen free on FIFA+. Sounders are out after losing on Saturday.

Tuesday
1400 Flamengo v Al Hilal Semi 1

Wednesday
1400 Al Ahly v Real Madrid Semi 2

Saturday
1400 Final

Concacaf Men's u17 World Cup qualifying starts this Saturday on OneSoccer/fubotv. Canada's matches will be shown live while the rest will be on demand. Some maybe shown on OneSoccer's Youtube channel.

Saturday
1700 Canada v T&T

Monday
1700 Barbados v Canada

Wednesday
2000 USA v Canada

Wrexham is back this Tuesday with a FA Cup replay v Sheffield United at 1445 on SN. First encounter on Sunday morning/early afternoon on Jan 29th got 100k on SN. This is in line with Premier League numbers when they were on SN 5+ years ago - but there was also 40% more households that subscribed to a linear tv platform.

That is a big audience for two non-Premier League teams.

Champions League will be back on CBS next week. Tues: PSG vs. Bayern, Wed: Chelsea vs. Dortmund

Yes, champions league is back and CBS will also show the Liverpool vs Real Madrid but no games on Feb 22.

According to my cable schedule, TSN will carry all three Canadian teams on the opening day Feb 25.

Yes, Champions League is back after 3 month hiatus for the World Cup & winter breaks. All Tuesday/Wednesday matches are on DAZN with CBS usually having 1 match/day.

Matches involving Canadian players this week are:
  • PSG v Bayern Tuesday 1500 ET DAZN/CBS
  • Club Brugge v Benfica Wednesday 1500 ET DAZN

Usually the domestic leagues don’t play during Champions League but given the compressed schedules, there are a few this week. The highlight is top of the table Premier League clash of Arsenal v Man City on fubotv Wednesday 1430 ET.

With the Canadian women calling of their strike action, there are 3 SheBelieves Cup matches to watch. All are on OneSoccer/fubotv.

Thursday 1900 ET
USA v Canada

Sunday 1830 ET
Brazil v Canada

Next Wednesday 1430 ET
Canada v Japan

Canada u17 men are also playing the USA this Wednesday 2000 via OneSoccer/fubotv. Depending on where they place in the group, their R16 match is on Saturday at 1700/2000 or Sunday at 2000.

There are also 3 domestic league matches with notable Canadian players to watch:

Tuesday 1500 ET
Burnley v Watford DAZN (rising star Kone typically starts for Watford)

Saturday 1010 ET
Real Betis v Real Valladolid TSN1 (Larin has scored 2 goals in his 3 matches with Valladolid)

Sunday 700 ET
PSG v Lille BEIN/OneSoccer (David scored a brace yesterday to lead Lille with 14 goals this season)

With Apple TV acquiring MLS rights for the next 10 years, there will only limited MLS matches on TSN/RDS going forward. Basically, each Canadian MLS team will be featured around 14 times each on TSN/RDS ex playoffs & Leagues Cup matches this year. Opening weekend is free on Apple TV while there should be about 6 free/week for the rest of the first 4 weeks. Free matches for the rest of the season is TBD,

TSN will also have about 1 match/week featuring American teams. This weekend, there is a showing on Saturday 1630 ET & Sunday 2000 ET. FOX will also have about a match/week but about half is on not available in Canada Fox Sports channels.

Isn't that wonderful? Another streaming service to watch sports and this time is for my local team.

I'm used to British accent for soccer games but it looks like Apple has better pre and post game shows and definatly better streaming quality.

Wileman and Caldwell called the TFC and Whitecaps games for TSN on Saturday. I assume they were at BMO Field for TFC and still in Toronto for the Whitecaps home opener. Blake Price and Paul Dolan called the Whitecaps game for Apple.

How was Apple's production?

I was actually going to write my experience. Apple TV defiantly has much better quality than TSN, I think it's 1080 vs 720. Excellent studio setup comparable to PL and four (4) hosts. But I'm just not used to see or hear Americans talk about soccer, that's why I watched TSN.

I only follow one MLS team and this season pass is just too much for me. They should have a team pass like NBA LeaguePass to follow just one team. Anyway, $129 per season is too much so I guess I just watch the scraps on TSN.

The NBA Team pass is only 10% cheaper than the league pass. I doubt that would make much difference for most customers (MLS or NBA). MLS Season Pass is not directly comparable because most customers will be buying it to watch their local team while the NBA is an "out of market" package, i.e. you can't watch Raptors games in Canada.

TSN announced the acquisition of broadcast rights in Canada to the NATIONAL WOMEN’S SOCCER LEAGUE, including the 2023 NWSL Championship. The network delivers English-language live coverage of NWSL games on TSN and TSN+ throughout the 2023 NWSL season. Coverage kicks off on opening weekend with select games live on TSN+ on Sunday, March 26. The network’s full broadcast schedule will be announced next week. (Bell Media Press Release)

40% of NWSL matches will be on TSN/TSN+. Of these, 81% will be streamed. 13 will be on linear TSN. CBS will also show 6 matches of which 3 aren't on linear TSN. There are about 25 matches on CBSSN but likely blacked out in Canada even though TSN is only carrying about 10 of these matches.

60% of the matches should be available on NWSL's website. Last few years 80% was on twitch which was more convenient as their apps are available on various platforms.

It's only a 1 year deal for TSN as NWSL's international rights expired last year but their American rights expire at the end of this year. So, they had no takers for a 1 year international deal which meant TSN could pick it up for a few pennies. It now leaves the door open for NWSL to offer global rights option for their new deal.

Season kicks off next weekend. TSN+ will show 2 of the 6 matches.

Sunday March 26
1700 Thorns v Orlando
2100 Angel City v Gotham

ata football also just announced their streaming service is now free. So, you can watch Serie A Fem & Frauen Bundesliga.

This adds to the major women's leagues that can be seen for free in part or whole: UEFA Champions League, WSL (50%), NWSL (60%), Liga F, Serie A, Bundesliga, D1 Arkema (10%).
