Telus today announced the launch of a SMS text message notification system that notifies wireless customers when they reach certain thresholds of data consumption.
SMS notifications for data plan customers will be sent informing them when they have reached both 75 per cent and 95 per cent of their data thresholds in a given month.
Customers will also be notified when they have incurred a $10 overage charge and a $50 overage charge.
For customers using pay-per-use data, free SMS notifications will be sent when customers have used $10 and $50.
Telus says that data notification will be automatically enabled for all Telus data plans at no extra charge. Although it is not recommended, customers who do not wish to be notified about the status of their data consumption can choose to opt out.
The alerts will work in Canada and while roaming in the United States and internationally.
