Hi

I recently bought an LG BD555C http://www.lg.com/ca_en/tv-audio-video/video/LG-blu-ray-dvd-player-BD555C.jsp

I know that it have online features, but it will take quite a lot of work getting a cable from my router to my TV and I wanna know if it will be worth the effort? I know there are wireless options, but it will cost me at least $50.

What will I be able to do online? No Netflix, right? No Hulu? If we are only talking about Pandora and Picasa webalbums, I dont think I'll do it...

What are your opinions?

I live in Ontario.

I just bought the same player 3 days ago .
No netflix
you can use picasa webalbums
view anything on youtube and there is some weather thingy accurweather.

You can update the player online or use a memory stick .

Whats Hulu?

Theres also BD live interactive service , but i dont know what this is or have tried it .

I did connect a external harddrive to usb on the player and was able to play movies songs etc.

I bought the same player on Boxing Week but I returned it, and after returning also Samsung I finally bought Sony BDP-S370 at WM for $86.
LG was excellent player, but the kids did not like the internet features. You basically have Picasa, You Tube, and Weather. No Pandora in Canada. It is not worth connecting wireless to this or any other bluray player with no build in wireless card. If you want internet contents get a Sony. It is excellent player with Netflix coming soon. This message is displayed for the last three months. Wired connection is the best, but if it is not possible get a player with build in wireless card, it will be cheaper than buying add-on. Sony introduced BDP-S380, but the new model has no DIVX (avi) playback. You might still find BDP-S370 at a good price.

If there is anything worth hooking the player up to the internet for, it would be for the updates. I have mine connected to the internet mainly for that reason. Mine has You Tube on it and once in a while I use that feature. But more than anything I have it connected to the internet for the updates. It's just very convenient.

Is there any chance that LG will update the player, sometime in the future, so it will do Netflix and other stuff, or is it "locked" with Picasa, weather and Youtube?

The newest Sharp DVD players have Wi-Fi as do several other 2011 models. Not sure of the need if your TV has internet capabities.

I just got my Samsung today and am trying to connect it to the internet. I'm connecting it to my linksys router, how do I find out if it's static or dynamic? I wasn't the one who setup the router. Thanks.

Personally, I wouldn't bother. I don't care about BD-Live (disabled it right away). If the player could read files from your computers (ie. DLNA), I would network it, but it is not DLNA capable, so ...

how do I find out if it's static or dynamic?

I assume you have a computer connected to it. Check the settings on it. Also, with the Samsung, it should tell you if you have a good connection, so leave it on DHCP and see if it works.

I recently discovered one of the benefits of connecting online. Last night I watched Fast & Furious before going to see Fast Five in theatres. Instead of old, outdated trailers before the movie, it had the trailer for Fast Five via Internet connection. I was really impressed with this feature.
