Shaw offering free HDPVR?

Just wondering if anyone knows about Shaw offering any of their existing customer who qualifies for and considering taking Telus TV (not sure about satellite TV) getting a choice of (1) two free HD STBs, or (2) one free HD PVR. Apparently, you have to go to the Shaw office and show them your driver's license before you get the goods.

Heard this thru a friend in Vancouver. Unfortunately, I called and wasn't offered this deal. Has anyone else heard of this, or is there some kind of promo code, or something?

Thanks.

Beware...

I signed up for this deal via an outside sales rep at a mall kiosk in Winnipeg MB. I was given a FREE HD PVR to keep as long as I retained Shaw services for six months. I kept Shaw for nine months before getting a good deal from MTS that I couldn't pass up. That was three years ago. I was with MTS for a year when Shaw offered me a great deal. In June MTS sent out another deal via their outside sales and I called to cancel Shaw. The CSR on the phone said that there was an HD PVR on the account that would need to be returned. I told him that it was given to us in a promotion almost three years ago. He said "We'll see about that." On Friday, September 23, 2011 I got a outstanding equipment collection notice dated September 15, 2011 for the unit. Today, I got an official collection notice dated September 21, 2011 (less than a week from the original notice) for the unit. I have filed a complaint with the CCTS.

I don't know why this is happening now after all of this time and at least two rounds of Shaw cancellations but be warned that the deal Shaw says they are giving you may come back to bite you any number of years later just because they feel like it. I suspect that the CSR was annoyed, angry, or having a bad day and decided to share it with me. This is the most recent of many issues I have had with Shaw, but those are for another forum. I just don't want anyone else to have this happen to them. I have called Customer Service and spoke to a CSR and a supervisor who will only say that "the amount is owed or the equipment should be returned."

My advice... get it in writing that you can keep the HD PVR for FREE. That you are the owner. Anything to cover yourself.

Good luck, everyone.

Any HDPVR promotions (if available) would be for a free rental HDPVR. They are not just given out as purchased equipment for free.

However, there was a promotion that offered a free HDPVR rental for 3 years, and if you retained Cable/Internet/Phone for the entire 3 years, then you owned the terminal. There was no penalty for cancelling early, you would just have to return the HDPVR.
