You are definitely not alone on the huge delays when deleting a show. We also have the external drive but it really is ridiculous how long it takes for the system to get back to it's "normal" state, external drive or not.

I don't remember it being brought up before but the search function is another area that ridiculously slow. Can't tell you how many times I have had the wrong letter selected because I pressed select but the letter changes before the select is accepted.

I really think the developers must have an emulation system that is way faster than the actual boxes and don't see all the delays the customers do.

As I've said before, I have lost hope for any new features coming to the "old Gateway". My only wish at this point is they can at least address the lack of responsiveness with this dog of an interface. It's completely unacceptable in 2015 to sit there for 10 seconds entering a 3-digit channel number on a remote. I know it sounds trivial to talk about seconds, but the thing feels sluggish no matter you do with it. I just try and stay out of the menus and guides as much as I can, which goes against the purpose of this box, which should allow you to quickly jump from recorded content to live channels and back.

Deleting delays were previously addressed after my complaints, and others, in an earlier update so it's really sad that they came back with this last one. They probably just started with an old copy of a previous code that didn't have the delete improvements. Just sloppy software handling, is my guess.

One would like to think they have test scripts to follow for the software and any upgrades. With results measured and recorded for each test cycle. My wife and I had also noticed the slowness of the guide, but didn't make the connection to the firmware upgrade. Glad I found this thread.

Add your complaints / comments in the Shaw site's community forum so at just they see how many people are unhappy with these things. Shaw obviously doesn't moderate this forum but they do their own so it's worth also posting there

On the Shaw Support forum, a user has offered that the reason for the slowness of the guide is due to the channel list being filtered. He has suggested that even if one channel is hidden the algorithm being used by the guide can't handle it. I have since 'unhidden' the channels that I do not subscribe to and have noticed an improvement. Might be my imagination though.

Maybe so but it's ridiculous to think that in order to be able to properly see the EPG without waiting 10-120 seconds one has to page through a list or 100's of channels they don't subscribe to.

It's inexcusable to suggest some other customer inconvenience as a workaround to what is fundamentally catastrophically bad programming. Shame on Shaw for putting out such crap and after doing so, not fixing the situation sooner.

Shaw is not suggesting it as a workaround. They have failed to even comment on it. A user noticed it and a few of us chose to use it as a workaround. A fix is still being tested.

Have my new Arris XG1 operating alongside my DCX3400. The latter is swift and easy to operate. The Arris's Guide looks like it was designed by the Marquis De Sade. The Guide excruciatingly slow and sometimes vanishes completely when I scroll fast. Its only saving grace is the my Extender finally works and the ability to record 6 channels. Still undecided whether to return to BB.

*Comment was moved from another other thread. Being more appropriate here*

The slow guide issue on the Gateway systems was introduced with the last firmware update. They are supposedly working on a fix.....though it's taking some time. (Where I would have simply rolled back the update, they chose to let people suffer....for months...)

From my point of view, the slow guide issue was always there on the Gateway but was made significantly worse by the last update. I remember way back when the "trick" functions (skip ahead/skip back) were slow too but they actually made a good fix to make those fairly good now. Wish they could put the same focus on the other multiple slow spots in the system.

The fix for the Guide Slowness has now been received by some customers.
See https://community.shaw.ca/docs/DOC-6560 .

The software update level is 7.2.1.15G5BR.

The fix has eliminated the major delays, but the Guide is still slow compared to other systems. I still see blank entries in the grid which now fill within a few seconds.

I have been updated to software update 7.2.1.15C7XR (XG1v3, Feb 02). The guide response is more acceptable now, and so is typing in a channel number directly. The program content blanks when scrolling (not that I could read it at that speed anyway) but populates quickly when I release the button. I don't need it to be perfect (all I am doing is selecting a TV show to watch or record), so this seems to be a reasonable improvement.

Just a note that we experienced loss of guide info and then no recording. It may have started with the time being off so recordings were starting late. Anyway called Shaw and got to push the factory reset with a paper clip.
Don't know if others experienced this lately but thought I would mention it.

I think we might be experiencing the same guide problem. Our guide data ends on Monday at 5pm (less than 2 days of guide data). If nothing changes I expect that after that time we will get no new recordings. We didn't experience any issue with time being off. We have been getting some intermittent problems with loss of signal and no service available messages. I guess I will try the reset option and see if it fixes things.

Update: Reboot did not fix the problem. I looked at the diagnostic menus and saw errors for IP address, account, epg, etc. downloads so the Gateway wasn't able to communicate with Shaw. I called Shaw and they said someone had deleted our Gateway (and portals) from their system!?!? The agent added them back and things should be okay now.
