With the reduction to one satellite, the number of cables needed is already reduced to 2 so probably SD figures that is good enough.I was surprised Shaw Direct didn't use the pending F2 demise (and the move to all G1 HEVC) to move their technology to multiplex all pending G1 signals so that they could go to a single cable install for all receivers.
HUH? Even with two sats now, if you're recording two channels on different transponders even if they're on the same sat, you still need two cables (i.e. one per tuner). With the reduction to one satellite, the number of cables needed is already reduced to 2 so probably SD figures that is good enough.
Thanks for the link. At least we now know when the beginning of the end of F2 is planned to start. It also marks the end of use for 6xx series receivers as they cannot transcode the HEVC (AKA H.265) codec that will be used on G1.See below for Shaw Broadcasts initial transition schedule for HEVC starting in July. A number of existing G1 signals will be light switched to HEVC. In addition a handful of signals (Mostly Super Ecran, Super Channel and Stingray channels) from F2 will migrate to G1 and convert to HEVC.
It looks like their trying to keep the most popular channels on F2 as long as possible which is nice. Like the network stations and HBO.See below for Shaw Broadcasts initial transition schedule for HEVC starting in July. A number of existing G1 signals will be light switched to HEVC. Yes, and now we know that we should have at least 4 months to trade in 6XX series receivers for 8XX series receivers. Thanks for the link. Let the fun begin!
Essentially, anything left on F2 won‘t be HEVC?Thanks for the link. At least we now know when the beginning of the end of F2 is planned to start. It also marks the end of use for 6xx series receivers as they cannot transcode the HEVC (AKA H.265) codec that will be used on G1.
