On the 630, red rectangle on the left means you are recording, 2 red rectangles means you are recording 2 programs. Red dot on the right of the clock means you have lost sat signal on the channel you have on at the moment. Other channels may still work.

Something cheap or free always has a catch. Most times it is advertising to offset the retail price. In the case of the Wal-Mart alarm clock radio, it is advertising. When the red light appears on the clock face, it means Wal-Mart is having a sale they want me to know about.

The radio tunes itself to CWAL and plays a message of Great Value. I have to push a button to turn off the radio which is a pain due to its floor location. One way or another, nothing is really cheap or free.

By the way, is this April 1 ?– my cheap clock radio calendar function is wonky.

I received a call from SD yesterday. They are sending me 2 PVR 830's no charge to replace 2 of our 3 630's. Good deal!

Good for you @goalsgo. Glad to see more members here getting this sorted to their liking.

I just wish Shaw Direct would announce a schedule or something for all to see.

How many total receivers do you have on your account? I’m trying to gauge what makes them call….
He did say 2 of our 3...

Actually, he said he had three 630’s. :) I’ve got two of those, three 605’s and one 600.
I wonder if those of us that are on this Forum ( a small percentage of the SD customer base, I'm sure) should take it upon ourselves to call, or message, Shaw ourselves and ask if we can get our 6XX's replaced with 8XX's? Has anyone here tried that or would it be a waste of our time and tie up Shaw's communication lines?

@tvmaster - we have 3 x 630s and 1 x 830 for a total of 4. So we will wind up with 3 x 830s once the 630s become bricks.

Maybe later they'll send you another 830 when they have more so you can get back to four again. Right now I bet they're trying to make sure that every body has at least one but you had so many they gave you two.

I think they already have a plan to distribute the 800 series. It could be based on the first group of channels that will be converted, especially if they can use some of the F2 transponders while the orbit is degrading.
...upgrades are to be spread out, with certain customers being targeted based on several factors. Given it's quite targeted based on customer, no website page has been made live at this time.

Dr. Dave what do you mean based on channels? Doesn't everybody get the same channels? Do you mean ppl who subscribe to channel pkgs that are going to G1 sooner?
Channels are often migrated in groups. People who subscribe to channels migrated first get updated receivers first. That type of staged migration makes it more manageable. If all the channels were migrated at once, it could cause panic overnight as many people would lose all their channels. There is not enough room on G1 for all channels in MPEG4 or many duplicates in HEVC and MPEG4 so moving a few to HEVC at a time will free up space to migrate more channels from F1. The first channels migrated are often seasonal or premium channels with fewer subscribers that allow the technical issues that crop to be remedied while affecting as few subscribers as possible.

They might migrate lesser-used channels first, like French channels or premium channels like Crave. Then they just have to make sure those subscribers have the 800 series receivers.

Other good choices are PPV or seasonal sports channels. PPV channels can be reduced with little impact when required. Premium sports channel customers are easy to identify and there may be some time between seasons and hours of the day where viewers and demand for transponders is reduced. They just want to be sure they get it working before the season opening.
I contacted Shaw Direct and they said they'd give me ONE 830 to replace my 2 630s and 605. I said that's not acceptable and they said contact the loyalty department.

Wow, that's a subpar answer, really subpar. To me that indicates they don't have the product. This is going to be a s#$%show I'm starting to think. Either that or they're being really cheap. What if they call and we just say "no thanks, I'll keep ALL my receivers until they don't work anymore..."

Did any body ask if they can get more later? I still think Shaw is doling them out now but might have more later.
