Score Media, developers of the popular ScoreMobile smartphone app for iPhone, Android, BlackBerry or Windows Phone, has acquired rival U.S. mobile sports app SportsTap for an undisclosed price.
SportsTap, first released in 2007, is an ad-supported sports app running on the iPhone and Android platorm which offers users access to real time sports statistics and scores from major professional sports leagues.
Score says SportsTap is now the 3rd most popular free sports app in the Android marketplace, right behind ScoreMobile. The combined reach of the two sports apps, over three million unique visitors monthly, will give Score the third largest share among sports app users behind ESPN and Yahoo and ahead of FOX and CBS.
Score, however, says it will not combine the two apps, preferring to operate each as a stand-alone application.
“This deal further cements our position as a mobile sports leader among the world’s premier sports brands.” said Score Media VP Benjie Levy.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
