I just purchased a new HDTV for my father in law , who lives in Saskatoon.
He presently has an old tube TV with a Sasktel digital box.

I'm sure he will have a few questions about getting HD service and a PVR.
I've checked Sasktel's website, and gotten some info, but I find their
website not easy to read.

He is familiar with my Shaw HD set up in Calgary, and can use it fairly well.
Is Sasktel's system reasonably easy to use ??? He's 74.
Looks like Sasktel has a good promotion for new HD users. Is there anything
else he should look for?

Thanks.

Sasktel HDTV

I just recently - a week ago- switched from Shawdirect to Sasktel after three years with Shawdirect (starchoice)

Their new system is very easy to use. We have an HDTV with a receiver that records and an older tv that I have the regular sd receiver hooked to. For the price you can't go wrong

The system records two programs and you can watch a third. There is also a search option and you can record easily just by hitting the record button, hit it twice and it records the series. You can also watch recorded items from any tv that has a receiver.

When they install the system they will go over everything with him too.
The package deal right now is amazing. Don't forget the price also includes internet which is as fast as shaw so if he has a computer he can have some savings.

Since most everyone in Saskatchewan uses Sasktel for their phone service he will get discounts for bundling his services like long distance too.

It seems Saskatoon has just switched to the "new MAX" which uses Microsoft Mediaroom (the same as Telus Optik TV).

I've used both Shaw PVRs and Mediaroom and Mediaroom is easier. The user interface is slightly different, but the concepts are the same.

To see info on the new MAX see this link as well as the menus on the right:

http://www.sasktel.com/search/controller/_/N-1z141nt/Ntk-Main_Search_Interface/Ntt-newmax/

If you are given a choice of the old system and the new one in the on-line documentation, Mediaroom has the transparent menus. BTW Sasktel calls a PVR a DTVR.

Thanks for the help !

I'm sure he has Sasktel phone and internet,so he should get a bundled price.

Thanks for the DTVR comment !

I'm hoping to visit him after Christmas to see how he's doing.
He picks things up pretty well.

If he has a Sasktel cellphone on a post-paid plan, he can save an additional $10 a month too...just something to mention.
