Samsung and Bell announced today that the Samsung Galaxy S Android smartphone will be launched in Canada this Friday August 6th on the Bell Mobility network.
First announced at the CTIA Wireless show in March, the smartphone boasts a 4-inch Super AMOLED display with 800 x 480 resolution, an ARM Cortex A8 1GHz processor, surround sound capabilities, a 5-megapixel camera with HD video capture, MP3 player and a touch screen QWERTY keyboard.
Powered by Android 2.1, the Galaxy S Vibrant will have the full support of the Google Mobile Services including Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk and Android Market with its 60,000 plus applications.
In addition, the smartphone is designed with a six-axis sensor that combines the smartphone's accelerometer and gyroscope which Samsung says provides a smooth, fluid gaming experience when the user is tilting the device up or down or panning the phone to the left or right. The smartphone's user interface also supports a series of touch screen gesture capabilities including multi-touch pinch, long tap and zoom and vertical and horizontal swiping.
The Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant will be available August 6 for $500 without a contract. The phone can also be had for $150 when purchased on a three year contract with a minimum $50 per month voice/data or combo plan.
