Samsung announce world’s largest Ultra-HD TV

Jump to Latest

Samsung is set to release a new 110-inch HD television that boasts four times greater resolution than the other HDTV’s, the company has announced.

Known as ‘4K’ due to having four times the pixels of a regular HDTV, the new Ultra-HD TV will be the largest in the world.  The TV will be available in South Korea, priced at approximately $150,000.  It will also be made available in China, countries in Europe and the Middle East.

Measuring in at 2.6 meters by 1.8 meters, Samsung’s 110-inch U-HD TV is the largest made by Samsung, with the previous measuring 85-inches.

The new release by Samsung comes as Ultra-HD TV sales are set to increase massively over the next few years from 1.3 million in 2013 to 23 million by 2017, according to NPD DisplaySearch.

While OLED (organic light-emitting diode) was publicized last year as the next big thing in TV, Samsung and LG have found it difficult to manufacture bigger and affordable OLED TVs due to cost.  It was also reported last week that even Sony and Panasonic have ended their OLED partnerships.

Rumour has it the new TV will be shown at the upcoming annual consumer technology conference, CES 2014 (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas from 7-10 January.
