Then on February 15th Bell/Rogers/Telus will intriduce a new data charge. "Add Personal Hot Spot to your iPhone for only $20/month". My guess anyway

.... or jailbreak and buy MyFi for a one-time $20 charge and get exactly the same functionality. ;)

You kinda gotta expect that Belusgers will look to take some extra coin from their customers. But at least to this point, I'll give them credit (and especially Rogers for setting the tone when they were the sole carrier) for NOT charging for tethering - unlike in the US, where AT&T has been charging $20/month for that "add-on".

I consider to it to be charging twice for the same data. Offensive, whether its "tethering" or "personal hotspot"

It'd be oh-so-nice if Apple would stop doing the telco's dirty work and putting some sort of flag into the data stream that informs the mothership whether the phone is using data in "normal" mode, by regular tethering, or by the new Personal Hotspot.

I can't believe that, in addition to their regular data fees, Americans are having to pay an extra $20 for tethering and now another $20 on top of that for Personal Hotspot - both of which are capped at a level way below their "unlimited" plan.

Rogers already takes enough of my money - if I have to pay extra to access my 6GB of data, I'm taking a pass on that "offer".
