Rogers Wireless began informing customers via text messages this week that on April 12th, 2010, the company will increase its 911 fee by 50% from 50 cents a month to 75 cents per month plus applicable municipal and provincial fees.

The company did not provide any justification for the fee increase.

Beginning April 13th, the monthly 911 fee after taxes will be as follows:
  • British Columbia - $0.75
  • Alberta - $0.75
  • Saskatchewan - $1.13
  • Manitoba - $0.75
  • Ontario - $0.75
  • Quebec - $1.15
  • Nova Scotia - $1.18
  • New Brunswick - $1.28
  • PEI - $1.25
  • Nfld - $0.75

The increase applies to all Pay as You Go customers and customers who subscribed to a Rogers Wireless postpaid plan prior to October 5th, 2009. Rogers Wireless customers who subscribed to price plans after October 5th, 2009 are charged a Government Regulatory Recovery Fee.
