After a seven month beta phase, Rogers Cable announced today that its Rogers on demand online (RODO) service offering is no longer in beta.
RODO is an online portal where Rogers Cable, Rogers Wireless and Rogers internet subscribers can watch video from various content providers such as Rogers Media, CanWest and Corus.
The company says that along with dropping the beta tag, RODO features new content, social tools for commenting and rating programs, improved functionality and higher resolution viewing and new content partners such as Equator HD, Rush HD, The Filipino Channel and the World Fishing Network.
Beta Reviews of RODO
Despite Rogers hyperbolic description of RODO as, the "Next big thing in Television," Digital Home readers who viewed the RODO beta over several months were decidedly unimpressed with the service. Rogers customers gave the beta service a resounding thumbs down with comments like "RODO is a BOMB-O!" and complaints about the lack of content and too many BlackBerry ads.
In addition, Rogers customers who signed up for the service during its beta phase complained about the quality of feeds, the lack of content, the deluge of ads and the crashing of videos.
In a February poll of 79 RODO users only 10% ranked the service as satisfactory, good or excellent. Among those who offered an opinion, 88% described the service as poor or terrible.
