Forget 24-hour news or sports: starting Feb. 28, it will be all chicken, all the time on channel 208 for Rogers digital subscribers in Ontario. At launch, the Rotisserie Channel will feature non-stop footage of glistening chickens turning on a spit.

It’s part of a Swiss Chalet marketing initiative that takes product placement to extremes. The campaign also includes TV and online ads that will tie in with the channel, and a promotion for it on Rogers’ default guide channel, which appears when subscribers turn on their sets.

Who's paying for the bandwidth?

If this is true, I wonder what it is costing Swiss Chalet.

I have seen the commercials on various channels.

Some people will watch anything.

We don't need more channels, we need better (define it any way you want to) content on those we already have.

As I see it, the Chicken Channel is two steps ahead of the rest of the channels who provide us with wall-to-wall commercials right now.

Step 1: They've eliminated the high cost of producing programming.
Step 2: They've drastically reduced the cost of producing commercials.

I guess the next step will be to have us pay to watch blank screens? Oh! We're almost there now! When we've reached that third step, the final step will be to raise rates again.

“This is the first thing of this kind that we’ve done,” Rogers spokesperson Kathy Murphy said on Tuesday, adding that the cost of buying an entire channel for promotional purposes was “expensive.”
I guess we can only hope that the return on investment is so poor that this is the last of this stupidity.

has this channel applied for broadcasting rights to the CRTC? aren't they also required to show a certain percentage of canadian programming too? if not I dont see how this channel can be distributed, other channels have to go through tons of hoops and requirements, what makes this one so special?

^^^:) funny. Yeah...its much easier to avoid a whole commercial channel than individual commercials on many channels. Im all for it....every company should have their own channel and my cable should be free because of it....I promise to watch 5 minutes of each ;) (if they paid for my cable)

Seriously? They complain about bandwith and having to increase my fees because of it and they go and add this? I'm so done with Robbers.
Obviously it's very easy to not watch this channel if you don't want to, but I fully agree, to take up valuable bandwidth and make other channels less watchable in terms of quality is very greedy on the part of Rogers, and we as customers suffer.
