The wireless networks in Alberta will get the royal treatment in the next four years and Edmonton Oiler fans will also be treated to a multi-year sponsorship deal for the team, all courtesy of Rogers Communications.

Rogers will conduct a 40 percent expansion of the network in Alberta, which will eventually serve 99.6 percent of Alberta residents with high speed Internet access.

The $700 million commitment also includes opening additional retail locations and further increasing contributions to local communities and youth initiatives.

"For the past ten years, we've made strategic investments that help fuel Alberta's growth and empower Canadians to communicate, collaborate and compete," said Rob Bruce, president of Communications Division, Rogers Communications. "Today's commitment to further enhance our network infrastructure, retail presence, and investment in community and sports, will give Albertans even more access to innovation and the latest technology, while strengthening the province's economy and our communities."

Rogers notes that residents of Edmonton, Calgary, Fort McMurray and other key markets already benefit from its LTE service but the network enhancements mean even more communities such as Leduc and Chestermere will have access soon.

As the lead sponsor of the Edmonton Oilers, Rogers has official marketing rights for the team as well as the Oil Kings and Rexall Place. Please discuss this further in Digital Home's Rogers Wireless forum.
