In a corporate blog posting, Rogers has announced that later this month it will raise bandwidth caps and download speeds on selected internet plans for selected Rogers customers. Upload speeds will remain unchanged.
Rogers Extreme and Extreme Plus users who own Docsis 3.0 modems will receive a larger bandwidth cap and faster downloads. Rogers Express users with a Docsis 3.0 modem will see faster download speeds while Ultimate users will get more a bigger bandwidth cap.
Rogers Ultra-lite and Lite customers will see no change in their speeds or their bandwidth allotment.
Rogers customers with a Docsis 2.0 will not receive any boost in performance or their usage cap unless they upgrade to a Docsis 3.0 Modem. The cost of a Docsis 3.0 modem is $200 to buy or $7 a month to rent.
The following is overview of the changes Docsis 3.0 modem owners on affected plans can expect when the changes come into effect later this month. (Monthly costs include Docsis 3.0 rental)
- Express($53.99 per month) - Download speed increases from 10Mbps to 12 Mbps. Usage allowance and upload speeds unchanged. Additional usage charge unchanged at $2 per Gigabyte.
- Extreme($66.99 per month) - Download speed increases from 15Mbps to 24 Mbps. Upload speeds are unchanged. Usage allowance increases from 80GB per month to 100 GB per month. Additional usage charge unchanged at $1.50 per Gigabyte.
- Extreme Plus ($76.99 per month) - Download speed increases from 25Mbps to 32 Mbps. Upload speeds are unchanged. sage allowance increases from 125GB per month to 150 GB per month. Additional usage charge unchanged at $1.25 per Gigabyte.
- Ultimate($106.99 per month) - Upload and download speeds remain unchanged. Usage allowance increases from 175GB per month to 250 GB per month. Additional usage charge unchanged at $0.50 per Gigabyte.
