Yes I know there are other ways to stream radio but the Jazz FM CJRT internet radio stream was recently shut down. When I went to their site to see what’s up I saw they switched to TuneIn and a note about Rogers Ignite unavailability that I thought was relevant to this thread. It is still on the digital box channel 932.
No way Jose!!! Jazz.FM is streaming via their website, and the TuneIN and MyTuner apps. They always have. There may be other apps I'm not aware of.

The switch to TuneIn instead of a station maintained stream is more likely due to factors other than budget issues. TuneIn streams thousands of stations, providing more exposure and technical support as well as lower costs. Almost all radio stations have switched to using a third party streaming service because it makes sense. Listening links on station sites usually just point TuneIn or another outside service.

Stations being removed from Rogers is no longer a concern. There are currently too many options on the internet for it to be relevant. Before high speed internet became available, it was the only way to get distant stations reliably.

Interesting subject. My Volvo has TuneIn as an app. I use it and quickly discovered an excellent Swing and blues station. Suddenly it disappeared. I went to TuneIn on my phone and it is still there. Went to in my IPad and still there. A few days later it disappeared from IPad but still worked on iPhone and PC.
I have Rogers ignite and Tunein is shown there and works fine, even shows my preferred station as a favourite but still won’t connect.
On the pc I did the usual network things and it is still there.
I have no control over the Volvo app apart from de installing and re installing…which doesn’t help. I will try reinstalling tunein on iPad just to see.

Maybe my fault. I also have a Roku tv so it maybe I am confusing the ‘apps’ on Ignite with those on the TV. FWIW. I would never buy a Roku Tv again and may get rid of the one I have.

TuneIn. works fine on ALL my platforms except for my preferred station BigBlueSwing. Which only works on some of them.

Has anyone found a pleasant to use remote for ignite? Not the phone but a remote as good as the ones provided with the various versions of the Nextbox 3. Coloured buttons with actual movement when they are pushed.
Maybe it is just me but I find the Ignite remote hard to see in the dark and nasty buttons to use. I have searched around with Google and can’t find one that actually claims to work with Ignite…maybe some of them do but their ads don’t say so.

You are right.
The ignite / comcast remote is atrocious.
I don't know what they were thinking when they designed it.
The directional buttons are very hard to press, and are more like raised sharp surfaces - than buttons.
Seriously, how hard is it to put a normal button on a remote - especially for the most commonly used functions ?
I hope they redesign it - because I doubt that any seniors will be able to operate it.
Shameful design and ergonomics.

Exactly. I AM a senior and have trouble with those directional buttons.

I find most remotes (and other devices with buttons) provided by remote makers and manufacturers these days are difficult to use. They are made with rubber membranes that are often too small and always have poor tactile feedback and a mushy feel. What makes them even worse is that the contacts are usually a piece of rubber against a printed circuit board that wear quickly and become contaminated easily. They then require the use of excessive force on the buttons and start to fail after frequent use. Throw in some arthritis pain and it's not difficult to guess why seniors hate them.

One of the better remotes I found is the Harmony Hub with Companion remote. It has nice tactile feedback and is easier to use than most of their previous remotes. I wanted to buy another hub and a couple of spare remotes but Harmony, in their greedy wisdom, decided to discontinue them about the same time and they were not available at a reasonable price.

The trend is to make people use voice commands instead of menus or typing. I'm not sure I like the trend due to the possible invasion of privacy using voice recognition and its possible abuse by organizations with malicious intent. We've already seen a lot of abuse through social media. Widespread use of voice recognition could be like putting companies such as Facebork on steroids.

The Harmony remotes can control IgniteTV boxes just fine. However, there is no voice control and the remote needs to be pointed directly at the box. There are several threads on the Rogers forum on the topic.

Rogers also provide a "Big Button" remote, however it is missing a couple of important functions like skip and voice.

A pity that Harmony doesn’t make an ignite compatible remote.
Harmony discontinued making remotes last year. They may be available used but I've had bad luck with "refurbished" Harmony remotes. The Harmony Companion is probably the best remote they made. Current prices are astronomical though. The Harmony Hub can be used with a smartphone instead of a handheld companion remote and might be a good buy used since it has no moving parts and controls devices supplied with with IR, bluetooth and wifi remotes.

I have 2 ignite tv boxes/remotes.
Last week one of the remotes was not working properly.
The (voice) function was not hearing me, no matter what.
I went through all the normal troubleshooting for the remote - pairing, unpairing, resetting, etc.
None of that worked. It would only operate the box via the IR - it would seem.
This led me to believe that the RF functionality of the remote was faulty.

I called Rogers and explained the issue, and all of my troubleshooting steps.
The frustrating part was that he had me go through a lot of steps that I had already done, plus some other steps that made no sense at all.
I guess they have a checklist of steps to follow and don't want to deviate no matter what.

In any event - the end result was to have a tech come and look at it.
2 days later the tech comes over, tries everything I already tried - to no avail.
He cracks open a new box, and fires up the new remote.
New remote worked as it should.

Too bad I could not have just been able to go to a Rogers store and simply get the new remote myself....(like we used to, when we had the old digital cable pvr boxes).
