Bell Media has announced that RDS2, a secondary feed of the Canadian French language specialty channel RDS will launch in Canada on Friday Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. ET.
The station will broadcast 24/7 in both high definition and standard definition on Bell Fibe TV, Bell Satellite TV and Shaw Direct.
Carriage deals with major cable companies operating in Quebec - Cogeco and Videotron - have not been announced which suggest the audience for RDS2 will be very small on launch date.
RDS and RDS2 will operate under a single Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) licence which means that RDS2 will be restricted to a few hours of live programming a day with all other programs on a three-hour tape delay from RDS's main feed.
Programming on RDS2 will include Ottawa Senators Hockey games, NFL, CFL, MLB playoffs and World Series, Major League Soccer, Skate Canada, Barclays Premier League, Rugby World Cup, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, curling, golf, tennis, IIHF World Junior Hockey and NCAA events.
RDS2 will be available on:
- Bell TV on Channel 1881 in HD and on Channel 192 in SD
- Bell Fibe on Channel 1124 in HD and Channel 144 in SD
- Shaw Direct Classic on Channel 239 in HD and Channel 748 in SD
- Shaw Direct Advanced on Channel 391 in HD and on Channel 748 in SD
