Building a GH for Sainte-Foy, QC

Hi all,

I have been reading for quite a while on how antenna work. I really like all the information available on the gray-hoverman.

The more I read, the more interested I am. The more I read, the more I'm getting confused with all the information.

I want to go ahead and build my first GH. I want to build one for me and one for my father.

Here is my tvfool:

Here is my father tvfool:

Where I a getting confused is with all available build and different version of the GH.

Can someone help me out a little bit as to which version would be the best and thing to look out as to why it would be better?

Hi Nokio,
Looks like you're in Sainte-Foy or just north of it;). In your case you won't have any trouble getting the local channels with a basic grey hovermann like this one http://www.digitalhome.ca/ota/superantenna/design.htm. Unless you want to install it outside, you don't need 1/4 inch alu tubing. Electric wire gauge 10 is good enough for an attic installation. Mine has no reflector and without a preamp it does the job for me. Here's my TVFool http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29&q=id=0b869af987c445

I am a big fan of the GH too. I started a few months ago with a stealth hawk which is more omnidirectional but less powerfull than a GH. But you might want to try it seeing that you have channels close to you that and also fairly far apart in degrees. The other thing is that the stealth hawk is very easy to build. It will give you some channels now quickly (took me an hour to build because I was "slow" about it).

If you search OTA_Canuck and stealth hawk you should get a hit.

I have a GH in the attic that was designed by Nikiml that I like a lot sand am not giving up...but the stealth hawk seems to be a fit for you too...and you could move up to the GH later with the knowledge you gained playing around with the stealth hawk.

Nikiml has some designs for stealth hawks too : http://clients.teksavvy.com/~nickm/sh.html

Nokio,
Your father's location looks a lot tougher than yours. So do what Nikiml and fireflimoon suggest for your location first. Then by the time ya get done with that try one of nikiml's GH with reflector designs for your father's location.
