My PVRExplorerPro isn't working either. The most recent recording it shows is February 5th, 2008. I have about 25 later recordings and they are all a mess. I have a 5100 BTW.

It's a shame, I have a ton of cool commercials I wanted to put on youtube.

So is it pointless to hope for a fix? Should I just delete it all and forget about ripping them?

Hi all. I'm new to the forum and just wanted to thank all the contributors in this thread for the fantastic information.

I was wanting for a long time to extract my recordings off my 9200 and successfully did so with the help of the the information here. Now I have archives of my favorite programs, mostly concerts and sports events. Well, they are archived to my PC and not burned to DVD yet, still working on that. At the very least I've been able to save my recordings and free up hard drive space on the 9200.

I used Simmer's technique for connecting the 9200 to my PC only I modified it slightly and had the SATA cables come out the front near the card slot. The cables are hidden when in PVR mode behind the access door. I needed to do it this way because my receiver is in an entertainment cabinet and getting to the cables from behind is quite difficult.

minkey, I'm curious to see how you were able to get the SATA cables to the card slot. I considered this but couldn't find a clean way to do it. Could you share some pic's with us?

Bell 9242

Hello All;
I am trying to make this work for my pvr. I have removed the hard drive from the pvr and hooked up to my computer via usb connection. I am running Windows XP and although the desktop computer recognizes the drive and calls it a usb storage device nothing shows in the "My Computer" section. When I try to run PvrExplorerPro203 it does not recognize the HD at all. Am I doing something wrong, do I also need to run up the HD when it is in the pvr? Would this sata dongle install work on the 9242?

Sorry for all the questions but I have had the pvr apart for a day now and the family is ready to string me up! lol

bbgun, post #98 from gacdss explains that you need to have the HD powered up via the 9200 and hot-swap the SATA drive to your PC. Installing the HD in a PC doesn't seem to work.

I've also been able to do it from my 9200. The only catch, you need to have the drive powered up via the 9200 itself, then remove the SATA cable and connect a SATA cable from your PC to the drive. Something to do with the model of drive and the way the PVR spins up the drive. So it can be a little annoying but if you really want to offload the recordings it does work.

FYI . . . It does extract the HD content also.

No one has reported whether this works on a 9242 yet. Let us know if you have success.

Thanks Simmer, that did the trick. Once I powered up the pvr and hotswapped the sata cable I was able to download movies to my desktop. Thanks all for the information. Now I have to cut down on the amount of time it takes to burn the movies. I tried using nero 8- ultra edition but it takes 3 1/2 hours to do one movie and I found it still had some scrambling of the picture and by the end of the movie the voice and picture were out of synch. Anyone else using nero 8? Can you alter the final encoding or does it just do it automatically? I'll have to send an email to customer support.

Now that the 9242s are able to record to external HDDs, has anyone tried these methods with their external drives? Seems STUPID simple at this point to record to the external drive, disconnect it from the 9242 and then plug it in to your PC and offload.

I'm looking at buying an external drive now, and would like to know BEFOREHAND how much easier it is?

Nobody has reported ever being able to rip from an external Dish drive due to extra encryption, so I expect that for Bell also.

We know that it can read the 9200 and 9242 internal hard drive by hot-swapping the SATA interface to a PC. But can it read the external drive through the USB?

no new recordings are showing up on my 9200 I have recorded a lot of concerts from hdnet but those do not show. For instance barenaked ladies live in michigan isnt listed neither are any of the termanator sarah connor chronicles.Would deleting all shows from the hard drive and strarting over help.

Has anyone made any recent recordings and get them to show.

Nothing has changed as a result of recent smart card and software updates. Everything still works the same way. This includes HDNet.

Yes my mistake it does work. What happened was I have my pvr setup to record 3 min early so the show title pvrexplorer gets is different from what is listed on the pvr.

Looking for info PVR9242 copying MPEG's

I have been capturing movies for years with video capture card in computer, then burning them to DVD to build my collection. With purchase recently of new HD PVR and reading about the technology I thought that I would try to use external HD to transfer files as recorded by PVR to computer and expand my sources of capability. Not! The files would transfer once to new external HD and then would not be picked up by computer, or have drive letter assigned when opened in "my computer" The disk manager seems to recognize that a healthy drive exists, it just doesn't recognize it. Is there a way to get the disk in a state of recognition in windows xp? Is there any way of using this external source as a capture medium without having to run it through the video capture card? Last of all if the computer will not recognize the drive in its current format, how do I go about formatting this disk so that I can use it for other useful purposes? Thanks for any and all discussion, from what I've seem in these threads there is a lot of creativity out there. - G

The way the External Drive is marketed is for "archiving" shows and movies, it is not made for storage and then transfer to a PC etc.

I am sure that will come eventually but for now it does not appear possible and it certainly is not going to be supported or encouraged by Bell TV.

I believe the file format of the EHD is a Linux Format.

ther PVR most likly formats the drive to a funky file system that windows does not reconize. if you can find out the filesystem that it puts on the drive then you may be able to find a way or program on google to read the drive

I believe you're right. My guess is the MPEG files on the drive are not encrypted but the directory structure is obscured somehow, either through encryption or some non-standard directory structure. PVRExplorerPro is able to read the directory and allows you to transfer the files.


As I said before in this post, has anyone tried using PVRExplorerPro to read an EHD with ExpressVu content on it.
