Public Mobile has announced a couple of new features to their Unlimited offerings. First, a $15/month Unlimited province-wide talk plan. This will be available starting on April 1st and will be a permanent plan.

...

Next and most importantly is a $5 Unlimited email. We’ve been saying data will be coming to Public Mobile for months and it’s almost now here. They will officially be launching their data services sometime in April with a QWERTY device called the “Buzz” along with this $5 Unlimited Email service add-on.
The $15 talk plan is interesting, and email is good start, but the fact that they seem to be keeping the manufacturer a secret of this "Buzz" device makes me skeptical.

On its final legs ?

$15 per month for unlimited prov. wide talk ? It seems like a last ditch effort to either a) avoid bankruptcy or b) avoid a buyout from Telus ( which is what is going to happen anyway) p.s. If you go with them don't spend much on a handset !

Bear in mind that LD doesnt really cost anything. Termination costs are essentially the same whether you are calling across the street or across the continent.

Canadian telcos have maintained the illusion that LD is a chargeable commodity so that they can gross up your monthly bill, but its really a no-cost service.

I went with the $15 plan and it should be noted that you can't send or receive text messages at at all unless you pay for unlimited text. The website was not really clear on that but it doesn't really bother me enough to upgrade the plan, considering that the service is cheap and I can talk as long as I want. I got the $55 ZTE C70 slide phone, features are basic and the build quality seems kind of flimsy but it seems ok for my needs as long as it doesn't break prematurely.
