PS3 & New TV to home theatre

I just purchased and LG 50" plasma 1080p and a PS3 and have a quick question about the setup with my home theatre. I have a sony receiver/dvd player that does not have HDMI input in the back. I currently have the PS3 connected via the HDMI cable to my TV and then the TV connected to my receiver with an optical cable.

My question is am I better off to connect the PS3 directly to the receiver using the optical cable or keeping the set up as is?

Not sure if there is any difference but just want to make sure I am getting the most out of my existing setup.

thanks

from the optical on the PS3 to the reciever. the reason being most TV's do not have a pass-through option and the optical feed from the TV to the reciever will not be in DTS or Dolby Digital. just make sure in the PS3 system settings you have audio set-up to optical and set for DTS as well as Dolby Digital.

Cheers
