LG now apparently has the choice to have the injunction extended or request a court order that all the confiscated consoles be destroyed.

Like all patent issues, I'm sure this will find a way to work itself out in a backroom somewhere before anyone notices an actual impact.

Wow, that's really bad...it's unusual that an actual ban actually gets enforced to that extent (recall RIM going through this umpteen times).

EMEA is an important market for Sony, and critical to it maintaining its razor thin global share lead over Microsoft, and in recent weeks, even Nintendo.

The local newspaper here in Taiwan published a more sober explanation of whats going on...

Apparently while the ban is technically a EU one, LG would still need to seek an enforecement order in in each of the 27 member states.

They have only done so in The Netherlands because of the fact that Sony uses the seaport in Rotterdam heavily. Sony is already arranging secret importation point throughout the EU so stockouts are not anticipated.

According to vgchartz.com data through last week, the PS3 is the world's strongest selling console in 2011 (yes, also outselling Wii) and the EU market is a strong part of their sales. I have to imagine Sony will do everything in their power to preserve their leading position.

http://www.gamersmint.com/sony-wins-all-seized-ps3-to-be-returned-and-lg-fined/

Sony’s won their case against LG and will be getting all their seized PS3’s back.
All 300,000 PS3s will be returned back to Sony and all future PS3 shipments can be let into Europe without any issues or breach of law.
LG will also have to pay 130,000 euros to Sony for the costs of the hearing.
LG will also need to ensure that all seized PS3s are returned to Sony by tomorrow and each day they lose will cost them a fine of 200,000 euros.
This verdict is only regarding the seizure of the console by LG and the fight between the two giants regarding a patent breach will continue.
