Channels approved since last update:
The Anime Channel [NefCanuck you can start bugging YTV now about launching this channel :)]
Already started that process ;) (I know a number of people who work at YTV and its just a matter of getting the message to the right ones, but realistically, I can't see this one launching 'til '08)

Update!

Some more channels have been approved, CRTC has really sped up decision-making time:

Niagara News TV
MyNRG TV (environmental- energy use & energy conservation)
Hookup TV (dating/relationships)

Applications for new diginets:

iLaugh TV (adult animation channel- not sure as description is not very clear?!)
The Adult Entertainment Channel (AEC)
The Relationship Channel (TRC)
The Work TV Channel (WTC)
The Recovery Channel (TRC)

Hustler Français (No french adult channel has launched to date so don't see the point of this channel)

The German Channel (TGC 2)
The German Music Channel (GMC)
The Tamil Movie Channel (TMC)
The Arabic Television Channel (ATC)

More useless crap IMO, why does the CRTC allow all these appications, most will never launch so what's the point? That's the CRTC for you ;)

any news on us getting Rave HD, it is part of the Voom network, we got rush HD I want Rave HD!
High Fidelty HDTV who have launched 4 HD channels thus far (Oasis HD, Equator HD, Rush HD & Treasure HD) recently got approval for some more channels. One of those was 'Centre Stage HD'. The description for this channel sound similar to Rave HD, so its possible this could end up being Rave HD Canada. I would say give High Fidelity a call and see if they plan on launching this channel.

Back a few months there was an application for TrashTV (I though we already had that channel...), but it was denied because it would be competitive with Razer.

Oh good lord. Book Television HD?!?! I don't even want it in SD. Space HD is likely to launch. We may even see MuchHD, though MHD from the states (MTVHD) would be better.

MTV

If any channel needs a better treatment its MTV! At least people watch their programming. The sound esp is so poor on reg. cable feed. Book Tv and Razor what a joke that is!

Pardon my ignorance...

Horror HD (and many other channels mentioned in above posts) has been "approved" - how likely is it that the channel(s) will actually make it to air - is there a typical timeframe? Do these approvals legitimately mean the channel will arrive as an option in the near future for Rogers/Bell/Shaw/etc subsribers?

Marq,

The vast majority of these channels will probably never see the light of day, most are crap IMO so they shouldn't launch anyway. When I say 'Approved', what I mean is that the CRTC has approved them for a license to launch the channel they applied for. Now if they are serious about launching the service, they have to secure programming and carriage agreements with cable/sat companies. These are all Cat.2 channels which means that no one is obligated to carry them, only if they want to (meaning if there is demand from their customers). The only channels that have a fairly good chance of launching are ones owned by the 'big' guys like CTVglobemedia, CanWest Global, etc.

I am just posting these updates so people know what channels may be launching soon. If there is something people are interested in then they can contact the broadcaster to express their desire for such a service. In most cases that is the best way to get a service on the air- the more people interested the better chance of it actually launching. Setanta Sports is an example, a lot of people were interested in this service and called Setanta to inquire about it and now it is available by all the major distributors.

Hope this answers your questions.

When Movie Trailer Tv will be launched?
There are actually 2 of these types of channels. Movie Trailer TV is one (which is from the people who own Movieola & Silver Screen Classics- their channels are very poor quality, I don't think we need any more crap channels), the other is called Trailers and is from a company called Blackwalk (www.blackwalk.com/BROADCAST.html). Best bet is to contact them and see whether they actually plan to launch these channels at some point.

By the way, these channels will probably be similar to Reelz Channel in the US which launched last year. It has movie news, trailers and behind the scenes info on films. Not sure how much interest there is for such a channel?!

There's are other viewers that like those other channels. So if we get more selection on to give viewers more choice the letter.

I like when new channels launched specialy when SuperChannel launched I was very excited i still watch TMN and MPIX its just more choice.

PlayItSimple, will you be a bit offended if I prove you wrong on that last statement? :)
