Procedures for Buying and Selling of BTV Receivers - See Post 1

I had a 3100, a 5800 and a 5900 in the house. Thinking of going HD. Question, if I get a HD receiver, am I allowed to sell the 3100 or the 5800. There are quite a few for sale (at decent prices) on certain famous auction sites. Not sure if Bev allows that anymore.

Edit by 57 - 2011.10.25. You should not sell or buy 9200 or 6100 receivers since they are being phased out and BTV will not activate them. See link below for more on the topic: (They can still be used for OTA so they may have some value to someone interested in that option)

One of my receivers is a bit wonky so I bought an used one. Bell said I couldn't use my new card that is/was in my non-working receiver in the used receiver I got. They said I'll have to buy a new card for $69?? and suggested I just get a new receiver for $99 instead. Does this sound right? Why can't they just transfer the smartcard to the used receiver I got?
Return the used one and buy a 6131 for $99.
Smart Cards are "married" to receivers and cannot be moved from box to box.
Is this still the case?

QUOTED EARLIER "Expressvu will not activate receiver's listed under someone else's name. The owner must call to transfer ownership".

This thread was started quite awhile ago. Is the quote above still valid or can the rcvr be cancelled on their site or does it have to be called in? I'm thinking of buying one of my buddies rcvr.

Thanks,
SM
It still has to be called in. Just did it with my old 3200.
Pre Actvation still on new receivers?

I went to Visions the other day with a friend and he bought a second 6131 for his home and the sales guy did not do any pre activation like had been done in the past. When I asked about it I was told that Visions has done away with that process months ago, and that a customer gets the receiver they want and its put through at the till & out the door it goes. I was impressed needless to say. Its about time they got rid of that long process of pre registration.
Prism, or whatever it was called, was in place when N2 was hacked. Since N3 its cash and carry.

It's easier to buy the receiver for an account that's already set up. If your friend didn't already have an account, it just means he'd spend more time on the phone with a CSR, than in the store.
Picked up a receiver from FS several months ago.....paid for it and activated the unit on-line without ever dealing with a CSR. It was up and ready within half an hour.
selling a pair of perfect working receivers, a 6100 with internal smart card chip, that when i used it, did not need a smart card, and a 3100 that did need a card and has it, it begins s045.
Phonecall in to ensure notes on selling and my approval, are done.
Questions??
? Will the separate buyer of the 3100 be able to swap no charge with bell the s045 card, which i believe was the last generation of old card.
?? Secondly, is it possible for the different purchaser of the 6100 to be able to get a new card at no cost as it was used with no card when i had it active a few years ago?
ps...I realize some cards are married or however you call it, but a friend has offfered his unused S045 card, for free to me, in case that helps in any way for the 6100 and ensuring no cost if possible to purchaser when activating.
THX!

Bell should activate the 3100 with its card and then ship out a new card.

If the 6100 has never been used with a card it should be the same as for the 3100.

An 'unused' S04 card is useless, they will both require an S06 card.

Why not activate them both on your own account, then after Bell ship the Cards, sell them.?

Sorry, should have added i moved and that is why i am no longer with bell, so activating them on my account is not possible. I dont believe someone not active with bell can do that, unless i am wrong?
I moved from my house into an apt when i relocated a few years ago and that is why i have the units. I would have preferred doing the card stuff on my end, but i dont believe it can be done.
In that case;

Bell should activate the 3100 with its card and then ship out a new card.

If the 6100 has never been used with a card it should be the same as for the 3100.
thanks so much for your helpful advice. cheers!
Can't activate rented 9241

Hi, great website, finally registered and time to post cause I need help.

I bought a 9241 locally. It was new in a opened box. The guy I bought it off said his girlfriend was going to Shaw and didn't need it. It has never been activated. I told him to remove it off of her account and put it on mine. He did and emailed me back. I went to activate it online but it says its linked to and active account. I called Bell and they said it is a rented receiver and cannot be sold and must be returned or she will owe $500. She is still paying $20 a month for it and I have it. I cannot get a hold of him or his girfriend at all now to get my money back. His cell # is no longer valid and he won't return emails.

She needs it back and I want my money back but nothing has happened for a month now. I left a note on her account to call me. I paid $400 cash for it.

What are my options? Is there any way to activate it? Or should I put it on Ebay?

First off. You could have purchased a brand new 9241 from future shop or any Bell store brand new for $299. Second. You will not be able to activate a rental receiver, so the receiver is useless. The person who sold it to you will be billed a non return fee from Bell TV.
This is one reason why people should never buy receivers on E-Bay whithout calling BellTV first...

Your options are very limited....
BellTV is not at alll responsible for your current problem, so it is very inlikely that they will offer you anything (satisfaction credit, free rental offer, ect...) due to that situation.
Rental receivers can not be transferred to another account and can not be sold so it's impossible for you to activate that unit
You can resell the unit on E-bay, Kijiji or Les Pacs, but that person won't be able to activate it...so it woudn't be nice of you to do that
I am an existing customer so the best I deal right now is $450 + taxes from futureshop.
I realize I cannot activate it. I want to know from the "experts" what my options are before I use it as a boat anchor!
Call BTV and talk to the retentions department (call during the day and select the option to cancel your service). Tell then that you want the same deal as new customers ($299) and they should either offer you a free rental for a year OR you can buy a new reciever at full price and they will give you the balance in programming credits.

As for the one you purchased, there is nothing you can do to get it activated.
