Procedures for Buying and Selling of BTV Receivers - See Post 1

I have just sold a Bell receiver the 6000 and they do sell for a good price on E Bay. I don't think it is the case of purchase for illegal purposes for I believe most buyers wish to register them on their Bell account The 6000 however can have an 8vsb board installed that will enable you to record HD using fire wire connection. From what I have read there are very few receivers that can take this modification hence the good sale price.
Mind I suppose this mod might well be illegal in the grand scheme of things but you are paying Bell for their services.

As long as you pay for all the channels you receive it doesn't matter if you mod your receiver.

I have sold one 5100 2 years ago and it is still on my account... I have had some heated discussion with BEV to take them out but they told me it cannot be done..

I show 14 on my account of which four are active. Sold the others to legit users who have activated them...and Bell insists they stay there till heck freezes over...

Amazing that I have those 3500s and 2700s still showing though! And it is a great laugh at work when people start discussing the number of IRDs you can have on one account!! LOL

I still have three 6000s showing as well!!!

I just took a moment and checked...still shows 14 and I know the two 2700s and the three 6000s have been activated by friends on their own accounts.

Those recievers...when you activate one it stays on your account forever, active or inactive under your name...it matters not. they never go away.

I'll bet there is some IRD out there that has changed hands numerous times and is showing on three or more accounts...as inactive.

Bell is so screwed up in their manner of accounting for IRDs.

Bell told me six was the limit, even though I only had three active and had sold three.

They would NOT let me activate a "seventh" receiver. So I sold it on ebay for twice what I paid for it. I suppose if I played CSR roulette for a few hours, I could have activated it.

Instead I switched to Rogers and got a free HD PVR when they had the Winback offer.

It's strange that some people are having problems. I've had seven receivers now, four 3100s, one 5800, one 5900 and one 2700 and sold all of them except the 5800 and 5900. Never had a problem. When I sold the 3100s I called Bell and explained that I was selling them to my friend, handed the phone to my friend and let him finish the activation. It was very easy.

I've had my share of bad CSRs, but if I don't seem to be getting anywhere with the current CSR I hang up and call another. It so frustrating when the quality of the service you receive depends so much on the experience and conscienciousness of the agent at the other end of the phone.

It's IRDs, not tuners. I had 2 9200s and 4 others active for a short time last year.

Oops...my Dish contract reads tuners not IRDs.

Bell's still reads one IRD and up to five additional IRDs!!! My Bell contract (circa 1998) allows eight IRDs.

Guess I should buy a whack of dual tuner units...lol

Issues about selling old BEV rcvr with card still in it?

I have decided to sell one of my old BEV receivers, so I need to know what happens if I sell it with the newest card still in it? Do I need to notify BEV? Does this affect my account? Any other info or issues I should be aware of?

I've sold lots of BEV receivers. I am now finally rid of BEV. There is no problem. If you have deactivated this receiver with BEV, you are good to go.

Buying used BEV receiver

I got an "official" answer from BEV tonight but I wanted to know if there is some loophole I can possibly use. A friend of a friend was given a used 9200 as payment for some work he had done for random person X, Now I try to activate and BEV says the original owner has not signed off so they say I'm pooched unless I get the original owner to call in first or option B is to wait until the original owners account has been closed for 1 year. Neither are really an option. I can always give it back and buy new which isn't a huge issue really but saving a couple hundred bucks is always nice. Anyone have a suggestion?

Well better bactrack and ask your friend to ask his friend .. etc. to call bev and ok it, if you can't I'm thinking its a hot reciever and your pooched.

If the receiver never had a new card issued there is NO fee. If the receiver is missing the new Narga 2 card then there is a fee, it was $69 bucks. There MAY be a $35 dollar fee as well to use a old receiver on a NEW account not a existing account.

In my situation the friend of the friend could not or would not contact the original owner so I gave the receiver back. Nice paper weight he has there.

Just call EV and tell them you sold the receiver. You will need the name of the buyer plus the receiver serial number and the smart card number (both from the info screen.) Ask them to deactivate the receiver as well. I do this after I do a hard reset of the receiver (to remove all custom settings and passwords) but before I ship it.

EV's policy is 6 active IRDs on one account. Their CSRs are so badly trained that you will probably get a different answer from some. Just ask to speak to a supervisor (to keep the CSR busy and straighten them out.) When they put you on hold just hang up and call again. Chances are you will get a CSR who knows what to do. With a little luck you may get another that is just as badly trained but lets you get away with something against policy.

I deactivated my 6000 and my 6100 earlier this week in separate phone calls, and I told the CSRs that I had not decided on buyers yet, and both of them said that since I own both of the receivers outright they did not need the purchaser info. All else went very smoothly.
