Procedures for Buying and Selling of BTV Receivers - See Post 1

I had a 3100, a 5800 and a 5900 in the house. Thinking of going HD. Question, if I get a HD receiver, am I allowed to sell the 3100 or the 5800. There are quite a few for sale (at decent prices) on certain famous auction sites. Not sure if Bev allows that anymore.

Edit by 57 - 2011.10.25. You should not sell or buy 9200 or 6100 receivers since they are being phased out and BTV will not activate them. See link below for more on the topic: (They can still be used for OTA so they may have some value to someone interested in that option)

card

Not necessarily. Technically, you have to pay for the cards. But, I have managed to talk BEV into 2 free cards on various ocassions.... given that I'm paying them about $100 a month in sub fees helped a bit.

Tell new owner to tell BEV that the rec was bought at a flee mrkt and it did not have the card with it and he was unaware that it needed one. A bit of begging might go a long way as well.
The equipment, ie. PVR and the satellite dish, makes you capable of receiving the signal. But you will need to subscribe to the service to actually activate your PVR and smart card so it decodes the signal. There are a number of packages available thru Bell. Generally, pick a package and add approx $10 per month if you want the HD programming. If you don't subscribe and pay for it, you will not get HD programming. I have Bell, so I cannot speak to the offerings of other service providers. Check providers web sites for detailed info on packages.
You can have more than 6 receivers on your account...ie. it is technically possible. BEV forgot to deactivate my 5900 after I replaced it with 9242. I went on line and checked my account for something and found all 7 receivers listed. So I tried hooking it up and presto...all programming. I had to call them again to deactivate once I sold it privately.
