I have decided to sell one of my old BEV receivers, so I need to know what happens if I sell it with the newest card still in it? Do I need to notify BEV? Does this affect my account? Any other info or issues I should be aware of?
Just call EV and tell them you sold the receiver. You will need the name of the buyer plus the receiver serial number and the smart card number (both from the info screen.) Ask them to deactivate the receiver as well. I do this after I do a hard reset of the receiver (to remove all custom settings and passwords) but before I ship it.

EV's policy is 6 active IRDs on one account. Their CSRs are so badly trained that you will probably get a different answer from some. Just ask to speak to a supervisor (to keep the CSR busy and straighten them out.) When they put you on hold just hang up and call again. Chances are you will get a CSR who knows what to do. With a little luck you may get another that is just as badly trained but lets you get away with something against policy.

I had a 6000 that I sold a year ago and it still shows up on my account (online.) I called and told EV who it was sold to but it's still listed on my account. The CSR even found the buyer's account in the system. Pretty sloppy if you ask me. What's up with that? Even though I thought it was a legitimate sale, that receiver was probably hacked and sold on eBay long ago.

I always call. Yet the receiver does not always get deactivated. One receiver I sold almost two years ago was still active today. I can only assume that someone has been getting free TV all that time due to some CSR's mistake. The other I just sold and had to call twice so the new owner could activate it on his account.

Just hooking the receiver up to the phone line should trigger an alert when it calls home. If I had an active receiver on someone else's account and wanted to keep it active, hooking it up to the phone line would be the last thing I'd do.

I also assume that all PPVs ordered through the receiver would be verified against my telephone number on file. OTOH, knowing how well Bell's billing department leverages their own technology, maybe that's a bad assumption.

Actually, EV still owns the receiver and dish equipment. The dish equipment is not a big issue. If you told them to take it back and they didn't, anyone can use it. The 4100 receiver is an entirely different issue. Even though they didn't want to pay to ship it back, they may still want rental fees if it is activated. They probably figure it's cheaper to let the 4100 find a new owner and then hit them with the bad news. Unless EV signs the 4100 over to you in writing, don't assume anything about its ownership. They may even decide to bill you for it in future if they change their mind. I repeat, get the ownership issue straightened out in writing before EV scr3ws you.
