Pioneer vsx-820 OSD.

Looking for some help. I have a new pioneer vsx-820. I am having trouble getting the osd to work for any settings etc. I have the monitor out going to the tv with composite and when I switch to that input on the tv and hit the settings button, I *should* get the osd, no? So far I haven't found much help in the manual.
Anyone with experience with this receiver, or with any input(no oun intended) on a reason, please help.

I thought the 820 doesn't have OSD. The 825 does (825 in Canada = 820 in the US)
Maybe it doesn't then. Sounds like it should be though. There must be some way to adjust the settings etc. The manual does say specifically that the osd deosn't work with the hdmi cable but you need to hook up composite or component to view osd. And it's a manual specific to the model vsx -820, not one of those multi model manuals.
When I hit the setup, menu etc. buttons, nothing comes up on the tv in any input and nothing comes up or changes on the receiver display.
I'm wondering if the remote may be faulty.
Don't quote me on the lack of OSD though, I'm just basing it on my recollection. However, when you press "Home", you should at least see the setup menu showing at least on the front display.

Have you tried the following, though:

Press RCVR on the remote, THEN press "home" button

Most people forgot to press the RCVR button first. Hope it helps.

Yes, even without the OSD working, you should be able to see the various menu items on the AVR screen itself. If you don't see them there, then you haven't entered the user setup menu properly. If you do see them there and your manual states that the OSD should work, make sure you've used the correct output (appropriate monitor out - not video out) and that the TV is tuned to the appropriate input (cycle through them if necessary). Also, sometimes it takes a few seconds for the OSD to appear, so be patient.
Is there any other (video) display connected other than composite when you're trying to view the OSD? Make sure it's the only connection available i.e. if you have the HDMI cable connected as well, disconnect it.

Having said that, think of the display on the AVR itself as a single-line OSD i.e. it's still possible to configure all the settings without an output to an external display.
use 'monitor out' with RCA cable

Hi, I have the same receiver. You have to hook up an RCA cable from the 'monitor out' on the back of the receiver , into your TV. Select the input source on your TV and it should work fine. Hit 'RECEIVER' on remote, then ' SETUP', and you should see the Setup Menu. I have HDMI going to my TV also, and it doesn't create any problems if you have both hooked up as previous poster suggested. As others have stated, you can do what you need to do with the screen on the receiver, its just a bit tricky to navigate. I am pleased with this receiver so far.
Thank you so much! I had the same problem of not being able to see the OSD and I was hoping to find the answer here :)

David, are you sure that there is a 825? I can't find it from the FS site (though there is a 925)
Unless they nixed the model at the very last minute, yes there should be an 825. I took a promo photo of the 825 for Pioneer several about half a year ago.
pioneer vsx 820

OK - I'm both a rookie on this site (I came across it using Google) and to my new Pioneer VSX-820 receiver. I too am a new HT user. I've spent 40+ years listening to music using either a component pre-amp/amp or a stereo receiver. So... I have a very simple question; does anyone know where to find the tone (bass/treble) and balance (left/right) settings on the 820? I have read the manual and find "tone" mentioned a couple of times - but with no reference as to where - and I don't find the word "balance" mentioned AT ALL. Very frustrating to an old school guy like me! Help please!! Thank you. And yes, I'm in Phoenix, AZ. But my neighbor here is from Windsor if that helps!!

Thank you so much, that was so simple but the damn book doesn't tell you exactly how to hook it up and I got tired of trying everything I could think of before looking online and found this post and what you said and bam 1 second later it's working so thank you.
