But will the SATA port be enabled with Shaw?!
I am still waiting to use the one on my perfectly good 6416 that I paid $799 for a couple years ago.:(

SATA ports are enabled on Pace hardware. This is not a Shaw issue, but a Motorola one. Pace has provided cablecos with firmware that allows external storage. Motorola has not.

Where is this info coming from? If you go to the Pace website the only info on the Aspen is that it is the 'latest' model and, as far as I can tell, isn't even in their lineup of available products yet. I see there is a thread in another forum about updates so there must be some of them out there somewhere but you would think that they would have some info about them on the manufacturers site.

hi, i just got this email from my friend who works at shaw:

On Tuesday, November 18th, 2008, we are launching the new Pace Aspen in Calgary and Edmonton markets only.

The Aspen is an all-digital, dual-tuner, 160GB HD PVR, just like our current HDPVR 3416. It is effectively replacing the Motorola 3416 in these markets, until further notice.

**Things to note**

· These units are available through Shaw channels only (retail, call centre, etc).

· They are not available through 3rd party retail. Third party retail will continue to sell Motorola DCTs, including the 3416 HDPVR.

· This is the ONLY HD PVR for sale through Shaw channels in these markets. We will not install -- or sell from Shaw retail outlets in Calgary and Edmonton -- any Motorola HD PVRs (3416/6416)

· We are not offering a “choice” of HD PVR to customers. All our HD PVRs are “Shaw HD PVRs”, with same support, service, and warranty.

Warranty

Warranty is the same as our other set-tops – 3 years. For current Moto customers who require a warranty exchange, the same guidelines apply – please try to exchange with a same or better model, of like age. When inventory doesn’t allow this, a new DCT may be exchanged instead.

Current Work Orders

Work orders have already been booked for tomorrow and future, and these work orders will need to be changed to reflect model 566 (Aspen purchased), upon installation. Warehouse should be deploying Aspen, beginning the morning of the 18th.

Price

Same price as other HD PVRs - $498 until January 31st, 2009

It’s important to realize - while the Aspen looks much different than Motorola DCTs, inside, it’s very similar. It operates on the same Guide platform, and the user experience should essentially be the same. That said, there are some differences, but many of these differences are features, not issues.

Here are some Aspen highlights:

· Dual video tuners allowing two channels to be watched or recorded

· HDMI input and an HDMI cable included with each purchase

· 160 GB of internal Hard Drive

· External hard drive expansion through SATA connectivity

I might have to put this to the test tomorrow. What a pain. Maybe I will call my manager contact first and make sure I will not be wasting a trip.

So what happens to those of us that have the 3416 models and are under warranty? How will the models in Edmonton/Calgary be taken care of?

Important note!

Currently, and maybe forever, combo USB and/or Firewire + eSATA external hard drives do not work with the Aspen! Only eSATA drives with no other connectivity will work.

We learned this the hard way out in Ontario.

Well was the speculation correct?

Yes, I have a combo eSATA/USB drive hooked up at home on a 775, works just fine.
must be just the WD MyBooks then, as mine won't work, and a Pace technician said mine won't work.
Anyways, I don't want to get this thread off topic soo...
