WGRZ tower is much lower than WKBW and WIVB towers therefore their signal has less range.Raising your reception antenna is the only possible solution if your antenna is aimed correctly and a low noise preamp is being used.WGRZ originally was going to have 996KW but with a CBC repeater in Barrie on the same freq.in the year 2015 they were only approved for 480KW.

So its looking to be a general GTA problem with WGRZ-DT Buffalo NBC and not a specific one to Mark's gear. If a preamp is used it will have to be a fairly mild one because of the risk of the locals overpowering the system.
I never ever have trouble with WGRZ-DT, always a good consistent 8 bars
and I'm using an antenna mounted in my attic. I'm in the Markham/Stouffville
area.
WGRZ-Dt

I not having any drop-outs with WGRZ.Their tower is the lowest.Try raising up your antenna if your having troubles.
WGRZ-Dt

Yaamon therefore wgrz has the lowest elevation above sea level.Their tower is almost 1200ft.Wkbw is 1500ft and almost 2800 ft above sea level which puts them up higher than our cn tower above sea level.Wivb tower is almost 1300ft.CKVR says they be OTA-dt in 2 to 5 years on channel 10 maybe. The cbc repeater would likely come on at that time.
Hmmm... lots of contradictory reports on WGRZ-DT in the GTA. Given the distance from Buffalo I don't think any kind of change in the contour would be that pronounced, but its probably just a case of their contour falling off near the lakeshore. I wish I had a spectrum analyzer, a couple of return tickets to Toronto (mrs. comes too!) and a couple of weeks to drive around and build a profile to take back to WGRZ so they can see what is happening in case they would want to address the issue.
WGRZ Reception problems

I think there may be another reason we're having fluctuations and i'm pretty sure it's been said on here before. I've always had fuctuations on that station since i put up my 4228 last spring. In December when i lost my satelitte signal in a snowstorm WGRZ still came in fine.
WGRZ-DT 2 is really broacast on ch.33. There is a mid power (912kW) analog station Ch.33, WYTV, in Youngstown Ohio, near the Pensilvania boder.
When the weather is good for skip or DXing, that station makes it all the way to Toronto. That interferes with our reception. I suspect this problem affects us east of toronto more than others, because we point our antennas southwest to buffalo and Youngstown is southwest. I also suspect our reception will improve when Analog TV is (scheduled to) shutdown Jan 1, 2008. We can only hope.

I noticed on Sunday morning that the Tropo was going to be good. Anytime I get a super-strong signal on WGRZ-DT, I check to see if WNYO-DT is coming in. Lo and behold, ER was showing on WNYO-DT. I'll try to play around with it later today to see what I can get.

Re: my aiming on the rotor. Unfortunately, I have a cheap compass and an angled roof. Due to that, when aiming the rotor I couldn't get the compass too close to the rotor or the needle would go screwy. I ended up using a line of sight approximation. At the moment, WGRZ-DT appears to be the strongest at ~180. WNYO-DT is at ~175 for me. I'm curious what settings other users in Mississauga get for these two stations?
WGRZ-dt Buffalo

While WGRZ-dt has been stronger lately ,tonight it is weaker but stable ,no break-ups.Its all atmospheric conditions effecting signal strength.Their lower transmission height makes them harder to get reliably.I rarely ever see them break-up,maybe twice a year.Wnyo-dt is 50/50 and is gone tonight.
Hey Rob what antenna are you using

I'm probably a couple of blocks away from where you live and I havn't been able to recieve this off air channel. I'm using a CM4228 on my Exvu 6100.
Buffalo, NY OTA Station Status/Changes/Updates

Right now (5:00 PM on August 10) my tuner shows nothing but black on the WB HD channel 34-1, but the SD channel, 34-2 works fine.

if you can recieve an SD sub channel, doesn't that automatically mean you can recieve every channel in that frequency?

perhaps this problem i straight from the WNYO?

are both the WB standard def and high def channels working for everone else?
Same here. 49-1 blank screen but the signal strength is at 7 bars. 49-2 is ok. (obviously I'm remapping)
Just checked at 8pm and its working.
ya my guess was they turned it off until their hd programming started (Smallville) at eight.
i thought that the WB has fixed everything, but now I check this morning, and am unable to get any lock or reading whatsoever on FOX or the WB.

I know these two networks are owned by the same company, maybe they are doing maitenance or upgrading their transmitters or something?
Same problem here. No WB or Fox although I have no problems with the analog equivalents.

Strange.

i've had both networks back for about a day now, WB hasn't changed at all, but FOX seems to be at a much lower power than usual. it used to come in at 100% in a number of antenna positions, but now it has to be aimed right at the transmitter and it only comes in at 60-70%

has anyone else noticed this?
29-3 has been removed.

29-3 used to have some activity around 10pm when WB49 mobile news borrowed it. No doubt the adjustments this week were necessary before the demise of WB and the channel switching. Glad to see the blank channel gone. Everybody else is back up.

I noticed last night I'm down from 95% to 80-82% on my Bell box.
