Corus buys Canadian rights to Oprah's OWN Network

Oprah's 'OWN' coming to Canada
Corus Entertainment has purchased Canadian rights to OWN - The Oprah Winfrey Network - which means the TV channel eventually will be available in Canada as a specialty service.

OWN is set to launch in the United States on Jan. 1, 2011. Corus wasn’t specific about a Canadian availability date, but indicated it would be “early 2011.”

If they are going to the CRTC for licence amendments all these announcements make them seem pretty confident the CRTC will approve of any changes or else they would have waited until after they received approval if they thought the CRTC would give them problems over it. Anyhow, if the CRTC has so much of an issue with networks like Viva not airing what they are supposed to be, then just grant them the amendments they want.
Comparing the current schedule on Viva to the programs listed for OWN (http://www.oprah.com/own/shows.html), it seems to me that OWN programming will come closer to being educational than Judging Amy, The Closer and Cold Case.
I'd say the line up is much better than what Viva currently has or ever had and is certainly more educational than currently is. I wonder what Canadian crap they will throw in for cancon requirements? Probably some of what is already on I guess.
Bummer about VIVA being rebranded....we enjoy watching Most Haunted on VIVA.

I think that W also airs that show
According to an articale in todays Ottawa Sun is states VIVA will shut down on FEB 28 2011 and on March 1 2011 OWN will replace it.
