I don't know for sure but I think I know what is causing the one minute recordings from the users point of view. I am not saying Shaw or Pace or Motorola are not at fault because this problem should not happen.

The only time I get one minute recordings are when there is 2 shows ending at the same time before it on the same channel as one of the previous recordings. For me, it is Leno and The Daily Show both end at 12:35am. The Colbert Report, has the one minute recording. Monday, I am recording 2 shows at 8pm sometimes, and they both end at 9pm and I have a show recording at 9pm. Only once that it got a one minute recording. Since then, I have not gotten one minute recordings from that show. The shows were not on the same channels as the one minute recordings that I get now.

I have deleted the The Colbert Report series recording and edit The Daily Show recording to 30 minutes late. Thus recording both shows.

I have a Pace DC758D with the Shaw PVR Expander.

Post when one minute recordings occur if they occur you get one minute recordings are when there is 2 shows ending at the same time before it on the same channel as one of the previous recordings or not. Only post one minute recordings that has happened recently as the latest firmware might have fixed the one minute recordings when 2 shows stop at the same time on different channels as the one minute recording. Also post, your DCT and if you have a PVR Expander or not.

This isn't quite the same but it is an example of a one minute recording. This happened to me tonight for the first time that I was able to tell all the conditions at the time. I was recording the local news followed by Survivor on a different channel. One thing I did happen to do was I had paused the news just before the recording had ended and the next one had started. When I stopped the playback of the news and tried to play Survivor, despite showing a full 60 minute recording with the show info, when I pressed play there was only the 'one minute' bar at the bottom and the yellow progress indicator line was at the end. Nothing I did would change this. I wanted to try unplugging the power but I had another recording going.

This was on my Pace TDC776D with Shaw flat Expander.

I have had a few recording issues over the last week or so, all on channels I am subscribed to. How I Met your Mother last Monday was a blank recording, and Wishful Drinking from Sunday which was a one minute recording.

There looks to have been another firmware update last night (at least in Winnipeg) so that will sometimes cause the old programs with recording issues to reappear even if they had already been deleted once. The HIMYM show I mentioned above was back in there for me.

Last night was the first part of an upgrade that will be launched tomorrow morning. All HD DCTs outside of the vancouver system would have turned off last night as if they were power cycled. Pace Summits and Aspens in all markets outside Vancouver (Vancouver was done last week) will be getting an update which should improve FF/RWD among other things.

Why would all HD PVR's be turned off when only the Aspen and Summits are getting the update? It is very frustrating when my Motorola 6412 won't recognize the EHD after being reset by Shaw. Makes me want to go to another provider.

Due to some technical difficulties last night's upgrade has been postponed. No new date for the update has been released as yet.

Exactly my point i mentioned earlier in another thread after Shaw reset all my boxes in Vancouver last week. Chopped my recordings in progress in my DCX box.

I have a grand total of TWO 1-min recording occurrences to my Pace Aspen. I can't be sure that either or both occurrences are due to concurrent recording on the tuner, but I can say that the 1st one happened on the external HDD (home-built with Hitachi 1TB) when I first got the Pace box 1.5 years ago when I didn't know better to keep the box running 24/7. After that my box was 1-min-recording free for almost 1.5 years. The 2nd one happened recently after I disconnected the external HDD and put all the load on the internal HDD. And that also resulted in other problems I won't go into details to hijack this thread. All my observations about the 1-min recording problem and some other problems point me to system/HDD response issue and/or "race condition" (computer programming term). And yes, a 2nd tuner concurrent recording finish perfectly fits the scenario.

I have now experienced the "one-minute recording" problem a few times in the last several days with the DCX3400.

I just assumed it was a one-time occurance, but now I see that this is another problem that may not be fixed.

The last time it happened when two recordings finished at the same time. It is VERY frustrating as the program I wanted was planning to watch will most likely never be repeated.

DCX-3400 Starts Making 1-Minute Recordings

Hi All:

Sorry to double-post, but I just discovered this thread.

I have had 2 DCX-3400's for about 10 months now. They were both updated around Aug 23 this year to firmware version 24.33, SW version 78.55-A28p0-5.1008.r-2.

Since then, I have had several instances of "one-minute" recordings on both boxes.

Today, I had set a routine baseball recording: 10am-1 pm with an extra 1 hour. When I checked at around 12:03 pm, the recording was there in "My Recordings".

I started to play the recording, and after a minute, I got the "end-of-recording" pop-up asking if I wanted to delete the recording.

When I checked the guide manually for the program in question, the program was still shown as scheduled (red dot). And the DCX-3400 would not allow me to set a new recording of the program.

The scheduled recording was still shown on PVR/Future Recordings. But nothing was recording.

PVR History showed the event was recorded at 10 am.

My wife reported a similar situation three days ago with a movie recording.

Meanwhile, many other recordings proceed normally, without problem. And this is an intermittent problem -- the worst kind.

I believe that I have read about similar problems on other Shaw PVR's, but not on the DCX-3400.

As of this week, when Shaw pushed updates to our boxes, DCX3400 that worked flawless since they were introduced to Calgary market, and two DCT3614 boxes that were also problem free, started to exhibit multiple "one minute recordings" on different channels. In the recorded list show would be listed with full recorded time, but once you try to play it it would show time as 1 minute only and skip to the end immediate.

Shaw now has 3 distinct families of PVRs (Moto, Pace and new Arris gateway) and you can't rely on single one of them. With latest update they brought DCX3400 in line with all others reliability wise.

I contacted Shaw tech support and they are mostly clueless about this problem. They will suggest the following fixes: reset from their side, erasing PVR recording history (daunting task in itself) and sending tech to "look into it" (which means he/she will come into your house, look puzzled and then replace your box with equally broken one, giving you appearance like they know what they are doing).

Interesting, I experienced this "one minute recording" problem on this past Thursday for the first time. My Motorola 6416III was reset on Monday night, Tuesday night and Wednesday night, presumably some kind of update done by Shaw. Then on Thursday I have this "one minute recording" problem.

The program recorded was Coronation Street on CBCHD channel 209 at 6:30 PM. I looked in the PVR list a few minutes before the recording was finished and the program was listed with a duration of "?" minutes. I thought that was very strange but once the recording was finished the program was listed with it's correct duration of 30 minutes. However, when played, the program showed a duration of just one minute and played for just one minute until the delete/don't delete end of recording message popped up.

Seems like my DVR has caught this new bug from Shaw too.

I've been having a lot of these 1 minute recordings on my new Moto 500GB DCX 3400. I never had that problem on my Moto 6416 III. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the fact that I have two PVR's in the same house recording the same show? The shows always record fine on my 6416, but the same show, on the same channel, at the same time will give me a 1 minute recording on my 3400. Once or twice would be fine, but in 3 weeks it's happened at least half a dozen times; and I'm not even watching that much TV as we're still on summer programming. What can I do?

It happened to us on the same episode of Coronation St.
A little off topic but did you know that Corrie is repeated at 12:00 AM midnight and 12:30 AM each weekday night as well as on Sunday mornings. I found out about these late night repeat broadcasts by accident when looking through the PVR History -- they show up as not recorded due to a user setting, as they should, but are another chance to get missed evening broadcasts.

To get back on topic, I do have a Shaw 1 TB expander connected to my 6416 III. I wonder if the expander makes a difference...
