Weighing in from Aurora. Today I completed my setup with an attic antenna and preamp and was able to bring in the four main US networks from Buffalo although WGRZ 2 (RF 33) is proving to be the most difficult to hold. Not sure if the tropo effect helped but before today I could only manage to get the CN tower stations, two from Hamilton, and two from Grand Island (WNED and WUTV). I wonder why CTV doesn't broadcast CTV2 as a sub-channel - I'm only 50 km from the Barrie tower and I can't get that even when I point my antennal directly towards it, and the feeds from Hamilton/Niagara must be too weak.

Great forum. Looking forward to reading more.

I got a quote from an antenna company for my Newmarket location and he recommended
Channel Master 4228 Antenna and a Pre-Amp 7778v3. He tested the setup in my back yard and got the Barrie channel on the back side of the antenna.

I think my neighbour's house blocks my direct line to Barrie. That's why I'd like to see a sub-channel on CTV 9 from the CN Tower. You would think 9-1 CTV and 9-2 CTV2 would be a no-brainer.

Finally finished my antenna hookup (wife didn't want to abandon our provider until after all the election drama). I'm in the McCowan / 16th Ave area, and have an 8-bay pointed toward Hamilton plus a yagi (on a rotator) pointed toward Batavia NY (for now). I have a distribution amp inside the house, but no preamp on the mast at this point.

First scan, 34 channels:
2-1, 2-2, 2-3, 2-4
4-1, 4-2
5-1
7-1, 7-2, 7-3, 7-4
9-1
11-1
14-1
17-1, 17-2, 17-3
19-1
23-1, 23-2
25-1
29-1, 29-2, 29-3
40-1
41-1
47-1
51-1, 51-2, 51-3, 51-4, 51-5, 51-6
57-1

Overall, I've got to say I'm quite pleased with this result. I guess I could tweak the rotator and try for a few more channels, and I guess I could add a mast preamp ... or I could just leave things as they are and call it good.

I'm not even seeing that one on the tvfool list for my location.

The biggest "missing" channel I'd like to get (but can't) is WBBZ, but I suspect that would require new dedicated VHF hardware.

A relative around the corner from me uses a massive combo CM 3020 I think, and gets WBBZ. I cant get it either with my setup.

So how many more channels could I realistically expect if adding a mast preamp?

I get 35 poorly because they still haven't fixed their transmitter, but used to get it great. Also 49 at 7 bars but it weakens in warm weather to about 3 bars. I also get CHEX 12 but I have to aim at it, so I don't bother because I don't have a rotor.

I can't get 42-1 in St. Catharines.
I haven't seen 35 since last year and had 42 for a while in the spring but not at the moment. 49 has been strong for me which is a pleasant surprise.

How difficult is it to receive CKVR (Barrie) from Markham? I have an outdoor antenna with rotator, but so far no luck.

They are an unlicensed tv station in Toronto that does broadcast digitally, and they are also online for viewing too. They are at extremely low power.
