Can someone please tell me if you need to subscribe to Bell to get OTA with the 6120? I remember reading that this was the case when you are south of the border, though I don't remember if it was with Direct TV or Dish Network... I'm curious because I would like to factor in the OTA capability vs. this receiver's price should I decide to upgrade... Thanks!

The 6100 8VSB tuner is for tuning in analog as well as HD OTA stations.

See my review of the Winegard Square Shooter antenna in the High Definition forum as to what digital HD/SD channels I receive.

According to my 6100 manual it says under setting up to receive off-air broadcasts with the 8VSB tuner that this input connection can only be used when your receiver is activated with qualifying Bell Expressvu programming.

Hope this helps:

The 6100 along with Dishnetwork 811 are still expecting the OpenTV software to be downloaded as well as the search function.

A search function that it just received not to long ago after a few years of being on the shelves.

Expressvu 6100

Hooked up my 6100 last night and everything works like a charm. The one thing I couldn't figure out was how to get the receiver into SD mode. The remote has a HD/SD button but it does not appear to work. Called Expressvu and spent an hour on the phone to find out they didn't know either. Anybody have any experience in this area yet. When you push the info button, on the screen appears the HD and the SD logos, with the receiver on the HD logo along with the aspect ratio that you have chosen. The SD logo is unchecked with aspect ratio of normal.
I don't have my system yet, but from what I've read in the forum, don't you just press *?
Expressvu 6100

The "*" is for changing the aspect ratio not as far as I know for changing hd to sd.
The SD/HD button on the 6000 is used to send the picture too either a HD monitor or a SD one... the 6000 can only do one or the other not both at once..

The SD/HD/Input button on the 6100 has a differnt purpose, although I believe it is probably more relevant to features in the Dual Tuner HD model, the fact that it is labeled as an input button would suggest it is for input selection.

The 6100 remote has button names etc that would be used for a PVR model, so it must be the same remote that is used for other models .

I was looking at this too and I think the HD / SD "logo" you are seeing is intended to show you what mode the incoming signal is in (when you first engage that channel) and it doesn't behave in a consistent manner. You'll see this if you go from a HD channel to and SD one the "highlight" may or may not still show HD. I just ignore it and if need be use the * button to change the zoom mode.

I have mine hooked up through SVideo and Component. I choose SD or HD by TV input.

Seems to work fine. No switching SD/HD, though my remote does it automatically anyway.
So overall is everyone happy with the 6100 or would you go back to a 6000?

Not a chance you'd go back, or not a chance you'd go back?
Hooked up the 6100 on Sunday and haven't looked back.

I never had a chance at the 6000 series...but the audio works fine with the Toslink.

In fact the audio in PL is way better than my 3100's...way better and the DD5.1 last night was awesome.

A few things I did notice that were unexpected were: I wasn't able to use my TV's, (Hitachi 51S500), stretch mode, while watching HD 4:3, although the 6100's partial zoom isn't bad...I don't really care for it. the other thing is that the PQ using an S-Video cable is equal to my 3100's, but not any better.

The other thing that bothered me was the guide, (no search function), but also it is in 4:3 all the time, (even if you are in partial zoom mode), now what sense does this make.
Received my replacement 6100, still have the same toslink issue. Can only get sound in PCM mode. I guess I need to wait for a software update.

Not a chance I would go back to the 6000 :)
The HD/SD button is for use when u setup the 6100 remote to run your own TV. Program your remote using Device Codes on page 4-17 and 4-18.

Pressing this button then rotates through the inputs on your TV.
My TV has these inputs

TV (Coax)
Video 1 (S-Video)
Video 2
Video 3
Colorstream HD 1 (Component)
Colorstream HD 2

The HD and SD logos attached to the Banner Browser r to show u what Aspect Ratio they r currently in.

When watching an HD channel through an Component or DVI Input, as mentioned, u can change the Aspect Ratio by pressing on either the * (Format) button or the Page Up button when there is no Banner or Guide showing.

When watching an HD channel through an S-Video Input or less, u can change the Aspect Ratio of the SD logo under the top Banner. Either Full Zoom (Go Full Screen) or Normal (Leave in original Letterbox or Widescreen). Change Aspect Ratios with an SD Input on an HD channel with either the * button or the Page Down button.

This is not a 6100 issue, your receiver is either not setup fully or damaged. Perhaps your Optical cable is damaged?

And no Rick i would not go back to an older model. Just for the iG alone. :)

A couple of minor bugs i have found r...

When using the Banner Browser, pressing Cancel causes the picture and sound to freeze for a fraction of a second, then the screen goes black for a fraction of a second then comes back on.

Very rare, only had this happen a few times, but when going to another channel (usually an HD) using the Banner Browser, there is no Audio on the channel. Pressing the Up or Down channel buttons once, then back again fixes this.

Both very minor problems.
