I wouldn't feel too bad - 61 is indeed too young to pass, he was involved with some good products prior to Nuance, and did certainly make a name for himself.

Who knows, he might have been a stellar father... or a great little league coach that we don't know about - but he was a crappy speaker company CEO at one point in his life too.

I used to frequent Krazy Krazy's back in the late 80's, early 90's.

When I bought my first AV receiver (a Kenwood VR-309), Krazy's wouldn't give me the time of day, so I never went back again, bought it from Visions, and all subsequent purchases from JohnnyG (Next Big Thing Electronics) in Mississauga. (aside from my Paradigms, they came from Selkirk. (Blaine's records)).

Was the KK sales dude/Nuance rep named Gary

I don't mean to be rude but the business did't die with the men. While this is very unfortunate, business goes on as usual and the business ows you, have you tought of a complaint to your BBB? That might help get the BUSINESS to take their responsibility toward you.

Good luck!

Sorry Bent,

Can't remember the guy's name, only that he was real young (say 22ish) back in '03.

I was never fond of KK either, but I knew someone there, so I could get buys at a good cost.

Funny. my first DD AVR was a Kenwood VR-407 bought at Visions. I have found their staff actually know something about audio than those at all of the big boxes, and they let you haggle (important for a Manitoban).

I heard that even with KK changing to AVE, that they will be closing in the very near future. Tough market to compete in. Plus, their selection has really deteriorated. Instead of Nuance they now have Ikon (same thing basically) in the dark room, and a few of the Energy C-line speakers. Tough to compete against even against a big box like BB who carries a variety of speaker qualities at different price points (PA, JBL, Infinity, Bo$e, and Klipsh).

Funny, I read an article that said Nuance would SUE any magazines that did performance reviews on their speakers. Not quite the self-endorsement, is it?

Well, well, well

The thread that WILL NEVER DIE!

So there is a guy locally looking to trade his Nuance SP-3 towers for some Athenas.

I'm almost tempted to do it, just because they are three way towers versus my two-way bookshelves.

I know we always say that the Nuance don't stack up well against other $2000 speakers - question is, how do they stack up against speakers like Athenas?

Fire away - good idea or bad idea?

Well, this will be a no go anyways. Got in touch with the guy, and he was concerned as he wanted the second audition series from Athena, not the first. He was worried about them sounding the same. I pointed out that the only differences between the two series was the cone and tweeter waveguide went from black to silver.

I guess he wasn't happy to hear this, because then he disappeared, and put them up for sale again.

Mind you, anyone who gets suckered into Nuances probably hates dealing with facts anyways.

Bent, thanks for the tip on the parts. Wow, $10K speakers with electrolytic caps. That is poor, considering my 30+ year old CV A-123s have as good as new film caps.

Help on my N-200's

I'll start this post realizing that there are many different opinions about Nuance speakers. That being said i have an issue with the speakers and I would like some help. The Amp inside the N-200's does NOT seem to power up, the fuses are burnt in both. When new fuses are added, the speaker powers up, makes a loud electrical hum sound and then blows the fuse.

If anyone can help or add insight as to WHOM i can take this to, to have them fixed. Thank you for all your help.

Please E-mail me @ [email protected] for any further questions.. Thank you in advance.

Hey Tallyon,

Welcome here, to the thread that won't die!

Mind you, I wouldn't put an e-mail addy in the post. Let someone PM you on the forum board - otherwise you'll be getting 20 male enhancement spams a day.

Bad news for you - Nuance does not appear to exist anymore, and the founder is dead.

You obviously have a short somewhere in the amp section and you will continue to blow fuses until it is rectified.

My suggestions would be:
- If you are good with electonics and soldering, you could try to fix it yourself
- If you are not good with electronics, but good with a screwdriver, you could take the amp section to a local electronics repair store. At least they could give you a repair estimate. Check your yellow pages.
- If you are not good with a screwdriver, you could take the whole speaker in, but are now likely looking at at least a $40 estimate charge as they guy has to take it apart.
- If you are adventurous, you could buy another sub and use its amp section for your Nuance
- If you are smart, take the woofers out to build a sub box for your car, and go buy a good quality sub for just a little more $$$

I prefer the last option myself, but it never hurts to get an estimate if you can get a free one.

Based on a quick Google search of "Nuance N-200", this looks like a pretty common problem as the quality of these was crap, suggesting the design was suspect or some components were cheaped out on.

Contributing to the immortal thread...

I just stumbled upon this thread in my recent endless search for speakers for my home theater setup.
I thought I'd add some amusing local kijiji ad links as my contribution to this ridiculously entertaining thread.

This guy wull trade his N-200's for a 5.0 mustang(more junk!) or he will blow them out for a paltry $2500

It "has" to be a 302 stang though!

This guy will sell you the same N-200 speakers for $150

Hey-who can refuse the "They sounds great" sales pitch?

This guy is probably a relative of the late George Baker?

Gotta love his "If you're not an owner yet and are looking for superb sound regardless of application" pitch-people are probaly remortgaging their homes for his junk....

I had a roomate who fell for this scam in the early 90`s-I can`t help but wonder if he still has his $5000 Nuance setup.......
