I want to buy a relatively inexpensive notebook or laptop ($300-$400) and use it exclusively for digital pictures, video and to transfer analog video to digital. I already have Pinacle Dazzle DVD reorder for the transfering process. I would like to do some simple video editing as well and burn to DVD. My current computer will not play .VOB file which the format my Dazzle converter uses. What are some specifications to look for in a computer for these purposes. I also have a 500Gb EH for it as well.

I could be wrong but isn't .vob just another version of .mpg.?

Seem to recall that if you change the extension it plays as the other type of file.

Yep, a VOB is an MPEG file after all, but the thing about a player like VLC is that it will recognize and process the other non-VOB files on a DVD that contain menu, title, and playback information so that you get the whole DVD experience. :) With that he might not need to buy a new computer after all.
