On its Playstation blog today, Sony announced its Playstation Network and Qriocity Music Unlimited service would be fully operational in Asia, Europe and the Americas by the end of this week.

A date for complete restoration of the Playstation Network and the Music Unlimited service in Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea has still not been announced.

The restoration in North America will come more than six weeks after Sony shut down the two services on April 20th and about five weeks after Sony admitted that its Network was the victim of hackers who were are said to have made off with the personal information of some 77 million subscribers.

Since the shutdown, Sony hired outside security firms to conduct an extensive audit of the system and says it has implemented security enhancements to the network infrastructure, as well as conducted testing of the payment process and commerce functions.

“We have been conducting additional testing and further security verification of our commerce functions in order to bring the PlayStation Network completely back online." said Kazuo Hirai, Executive Deputy President, Sony Corporation.

To encourage users to return to the service, the company is offering former subscribers a free download of selected content and a month of free service to its PlayStation Plus premium service.
