But now you can read full station identification while waiting for the guide to populate,
and they are able to deliver far more sound dropouts than previously.
Suspect I received update when portal totally non-responsive.
Usual pull the power to fix.

Agreed. It's why I sold mine. As much as I liked it, it could have been sooooo much better but Shaw dropped the ball. Broken promises, continued pixelation and recordings that are simply unwatchable. Not a lot, but enough to be annoying. It seemed to come in "waves". I would happen for awhile, then just disappear for some time, then return. (A&E was really bad for pixelation/corruption.)

My PS3 is now my "Gateway". I use it for Netflix, as well as playing media off of a USB stick. The rest I stream online.......for free... (Well, minus the service fee to "unallocate" myself.)

Looks like Shaw internet may be the next to go. Ever since I got this replacement modem I've been having a lot of connection issues. (It came with one light already broken...thanks Shaw...) I just had to power cycle everything again simply to post this. Grrr!

Anyway, back to the Gateway, I'm pleased with my decision to sell it. I was thinking I'd sell it, and Shaw would put out some awesome update...(as was hinted to by Shaw folks months ago) but alas, seems to be a whole lot of nothing, for me at least, had I kept it. *pats self on back*

Good for you for not falling into the trap about more empty promises. A LOT of us bought this system based on promises and I think we are all kicking ourselves to some extent today.

My family isn't yet ready to cut the cord. I can see it happening in the next year or two but for now and for the most part, the Gateway does what it's supposed to. We still rely on coming home from work / school and accessing the PVR to watch shows and series recorded. I don't have any appetite for change. A switch to Telus would inlvolve re-training everyone to use a different system. Cutting the cord altogether would mean a world of hurt to emulate our watching habits using streaming.

Back to the topic at hand, where is picture-in picture Shaw? That's not a DLNA / streaming / networking feature and it should have been available day 1 on a 6-tuner device.

Just got the update here too. Not sure if the ui is slower. It was slow to start with (particularly the guide). Definitely didn't make it faster.

My first complaint is the little tiny icons they added (new, date, etc.). They took away one line out of the guide a long time ago saying it was to make things more readable on smaller tvs, then they add these tiny icons. If people have tvs that they can read those icons, they can read the extra guide line. Please bring back that guide line that was taken away.

Still have to try things out with the new changes. Not expecting much based on what was listed as being in the update.

My issue as well - those icons are no more than blurs at my seating position, made even worse by the soft grey color. Nothing beats having to walk half way across the room to read something that was clear 24 hours ago. :|

After spending more time with the new update, it definitely feels slower. Some selections take so long to do anything that it feels like the input was completely missed. Guide sometimes takes 3 seconds to react and then it may need to fill in portions of the grid on top. The channel list isn't much better.

Not sure what the purpose of the update was. Perhaps there are some fixes not listed but the icons are not legible, the menus are slower, but there is the pretty graphic for the show coming up on screen. Was that on somebody's wishlist? The date sort option for recorded shows is a nice plus for some people. I would have preferred faster guide and menus though. I wasn't expecting more but after this length of time for an update I was hoping for a few more fundamental improvements (mostly speed).

Not much there but I would reboot if I were you because ours is not slower. Splitting up options so you can press enter instead of info. Whoopee! :)

I find the year display most frustrating - terribly small on anything less than a 55 inch screen. Our bedroom set is 32 inches and now completely unreadable from our bed.

More problematic is the time it takes to update the channel guide info (when the "spinner" pops up on screen) - our inputs immediately slow to a crawl and it becomes notably jerky whenever the damned thing appears.

My biggest wish for the Gateway: Allow us to either prevent the information from being updated while we're in the guide, or give us a way to stop the spinner when it pops up.

So far, I'm not very impressed - this update seems to have focused more on style than fixing lingering issues.

I'm just shocked at the overall "sluggishness" of the interface after this new update. It was never fast, but it seems to have moved to an even slower level now.

I hadn't thought to do a full ''power off'' reset. My system is so bad I'm ready to take a bat to it and smash it into oblivion! Why do these 'big improvements' only ever make things worse? Talk about being sick of this stuff.

I'll try a power cycle but not sure when I'm going to be able to fit that in.
