On Wednesday, Feb. 23, ABC, CBS and NBC each interrupted regular programming with special reports between 10 and 11 PM ET, so if you recorded any of those channels, you may want to double-check the recording. Even though the programs were probably sim-subbed by the Canadian channel, as soon as the live news coverage started, the TV providers are supposed to stop the sim-sub and switch back to the U.S. channel until the regular program resumes. If you recorded the program on the Canadian channel, there shouldn't be any interruptions. It's possible there will be further interruptions in the Western time zones.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he was launching a “special military operation” to Eastern Ukraine. (Deadline)

According to Zap2it, CBC will air a 2-hour special and Global will have a half-hour budget special beginning at 4 PM ET, so check your local listings if you record any daytime programming. It looks like Citytv will continue with their regular programming.

On Tuesday, May 24, all 4 U.S. networks interrupted daytime programming with news coverage of the Texas school shooting. The programs affected will vary, since many daytime programs are syndicated and carried by different network affiliates in different cities. In addition, the President is scheduled to speak around 8:15 pm ET, so if you recorded any U.S. channels, you may want to double-check the recording.

Hi most of the American networks are going to show the Congress hearing tonite 8-10 Eastern 5-7 Pacific. There isn't much new on TV right now but if there is maybe your Cdn networks won't get it tonight either.

That's why I think CTV2s days are numbered. I bet they will become CTV affiliates even though many completely overlap with CTV stations. I could see Windsor, London, Barrie and Victoria becoming CTV affiliates. Not sure what would happen with Alberta, Ottawa and Atlantic which have 100% overlap. In the case of Corus, they could add second runs of some of their popular specialty channels series. They've done it before.

I like how the article mentions that Canadian broadcasters might be rethinking streaming due to Netflix. That would be an incredibly shortsighted move. Netflix was pretty much a monopoly for years. This years upfronts prove that people are still moving away from traditional forms of television media. Canadian broadcasters have historically always been shielded from any real competition. Now with streaming, many studios are choosing to release their own platform leaving Canadian broadcasters in a pretty precarious position. Corus actually does have a lot of Canadian content on their various channels which helps with Global TV app and Corus service on Prime. CTV really needs to invest in original series and marketing it substantially to remain viable. I think even Crave is at serious risk as much of their content comes from HBO, Showtime and Starz. There is very little original content. If any of those decide to no longer license to Bell Media, Crave will instantly become obsolete.

Deadline reported on the U.S. broadcast network plans to televise the congressional hearings on Thursday, July 21 from 8-10 PM ET live. FOX will leave it up to the affiliates whether they want to air the hearings or the regularly scheduled repeats. NBC will pre-empt their repeats. ABC will pre-empt game shows Press Your Luck at 8 PM ET and Generation Gap at 9 PM. CBS will pre-empt Big Brother, with more involved schedule changes that I'll post in the CBS thread.

Both American and Canadian networks have pre-empted regular programming to cover the death of Queen Elizabeth II and related events and will continue to do so. Therefore, you will probably want to double-check any recorded programs.

CityNews announced today extensive and in-depth plans for coverage across all platforms of the legacy of Queen Elizabeth II, national events and ceremonies commemorating her life, the transition to the reign of King Charles III, and live coverage of the Queen’s funeral.

Acting as a special correspondent to CityNews, renowned Canadian journalist Lisa LaFlamme will be in London leading the CityNews coverage. She will provide daily reporting for all newscasts on television and radio as well as make regular appearances on Breakfast Television. In addition to CityNews television and radio outlets, ongoing reporting can also be found on CityNews 24/7, Citytv’s video streaming news service, and CityNews.ca. (Rogers Media Press Release)

Note that Lisa LaFlamme, who was recently terminated by CTV News will be acting as a special correspondent. I assume she had a non-compete clause as part of her settlement, but probably got an exemption for this event.
