Upstart wireless provider Mobilicity said today that it has added over 50,000 new subscribers in the final quarter of 2010 with still two weeks left to go in the year.

To meet the growing promotional competition in the wireless market, the company also announced a new $50 handset mail-in rebate offer for new subscribers.

Mobilicity launched wireless service in Toronto in the middle of May and last month extended its offerings to Vancouver, Edmonton and Ottawa. Service in Calgary is expected early next year.

The key to success for the company says the company president Dave Dobbin has been to expand its retail presence in order to get in front of more Canadians. “In the last month alone, we launched retail distribution partnerships with 7-Eleven Canada, hmv and Zellers – giving us over 700 retail points of sale.” noted Dobbin.
