Microsoft released its new Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 on October 22, along with a portfolio of new accessories.

The most productive tablets on the planet, says Microsoft, now have improved processing power, battery life, display and camera resolution, plus a wider-angled kickstand for ease of use. Surface 2 is available in 32GB and 64GB configurations and starts at $449, while the $899 Surface Pro 2 comes in 64GB or 128GB models.

An NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor helps apps run faster and smoother on the new thinner, lighter Surface 2 and video playback benefits greatly from 10 hours of battery life. Watching TV shows and movies is helped by a 10.6-inch ClearType Full HD display, which now renders 1080p video. Camera resolution has been taken up a notch with a 3.5-megapixel front camera and 5-megapixel rear camera, both capable of capturing 1080p video and featuring improved low-light performance.

The laptop-replacing Surface Pro 2 is boosted by a fourth generation Intel i5 processor, and will run virtually all of your Windows software, including the full Microsoft Office suite and apps from the Windows Store.

To sweeten the deal, customers who purchase either device will receive free Skype calling to landlines in more than 60 countries for one year, unlimited Skype WiFi at more than 2 million hotspots worldwide for one year, and 200GB of free SkyDrive storage for two years.

Several new covers are available ranging from $120 to $200 as well as a new Wireless Adapter, Car Charger with USB, and special-edition Arc Touch Mouse.
