Incase you do not buy the extended warranty Onkyo has 24 month coverage.
I have been a proud TXSR606 owner for the past 25 months. But I had been troubleshooting intermittent HDMI issues with the PS3 for a month or so. (Intermittent problems - gotta love 'em.)
I sent Onkyo a note through their web site stating I was dropping the receiver off at a service centre they had listed.
They replied saying "yup - we will cover the repair."
The repair shop said they replaced the cap's... still broken. Then replaced the HDMI PCB and updated the firmware and Voila! It works!
The 606 box is slick with the firmware update too. When I used to play the DTS-HD and Dolby True only the little orange light would come on. (You know the one .025 microns big that you can only read if your breath is fogging up the display.)
Now the ENTIRE DISPLAY says which sound is being decoded. I'm lovin' it!
Merry Christmas to me from Onkyo

Congrats :)

So you just told them you were dropping it off? They didn't check for date of purchase or anything? Was your receiver registered with them?

Reason being, mine died before Xmas and I'd much rather have it repaired and take my new Pioneer VSX-1020 back. And just my luck, my receipt is missing too. :(
