And don't you hate the ones that have your actual email address as being the one that sent it and who also seems to have been sent on behalh of Microsoft?

I really don't understand how spamming is profitable. I know zero people who even read them, let alone buy something. My mom, who is over 80 and has trouble using a mouse does not even open them. Surely some people must open them and buy something to make it worthwhile for the spammers. I just can't believe anyone with an IQ over 60 falls for it .

I'm guessing that leaves a significant percentage of the population (those with IQs under 60). The actual numbers are much smaller than that with some spam being 1 in a million, but it is obviously worthwhile - enough people want porn, viagra, watches, etc. to click on them and buy.

Maybe this explains why I received my very first spam email in my Gmail inbox today (as opposed to the spam folder)...

Beyond that one in a million person who buys, It's because of so many idiots who don't bother to protect their computers. The bulk of spam now is relayed through "zombie" computers which do all the work and aren't paid for by the spammers.

Shut down the zombies and you would break the distribution chain.
