lg, dr389, dvd recorder, will not record

Can anyone tell me what I can do to fix my dvd recorder which refuses to record anything from my satellite tv for later viewing. It displays a message "Copy protected, cannot record" whenever I try and record something. Surely there is some code that I can enter to disable this block on the recorder. That's what it was bought for after all. To record stuff. Someone please advise. Should I just take the thing back and get a different recorder. Thanks.

Here's a thread on the issue - Most new DVD recorders respect CGMS-a. The workaround is outlined in the thread, read the links in post 1.
