To me, the only attraction would be for someone who's lost/broken their dumbphone mid-way through their contract. This would allow them to replace their old dumbphone for a reasonable price ($179) and upgrade to a featurephone.

Someone actually willing to sign a 3 year contract would be insane not to pay the extra $50 for the HTC Desire.

How many dumbphone users will mistake this feature phone for a smart phone? I suppose the attraction maybe that it does not require a data plan?
