Global LCD monitor sales totaled 42.8 million units in the third quarter of 2008, just fractionally higher than the previous quarter, according to a recent report by DisplaySearch.

Combine a slowing economy with a move to laptops and the maturation of the market and it looks like LCD monitor growth has matured.

Something doesn't add up...

Samsung was the worldwide leader in LCD monitor shipments in the third quarter with a 15% share followed by Dell (13.4%), HP (11.%), LGE (9.4%) and Acer (8.0%). The top five brands sold just under one half of all monitors (49%) worldwide during the quarter.

It must probably read "top four brands sold just under"...
Based on the quoted numbers, the top five sold over 56%.

Not necessarily. The company percentages are based on the LCD market, whereas the 49% number is based on the entire monitor market. I agree that the non-LCD section of the monitor market these days would be pretty small, but CRT monitors are still being produced.
