In a press release issued today, Telus has announced that it will now offer HSPA phones to its Koodo Mobile customers.
The company did not announce which phones would be offered by speculation from online bloggers is the first devices will be the Nokia 3710 and the Samsung T3456.
Koodo Mobile is a mobile brand created by Telus in 2008 which targets younger wireless customers who don't want to subscribe to their parents wireless phone provider.
Koodo runs over the same network as Telus but to date has not offered any HSPA devices. Telus Mobility launched its HSPA wireless network, in conjunction with Bell Mobility.
The company cites the increasing demand for devices which can be used internationally and the demand for smartphones which are social media enabled as reasons for now offering HSPA phones.
"Online social media has become a communication essential for many of our customers," says Kevin Banderk, Chief Koodo Officer. "HSPA will also give Koodo customers the ability to travel internationally with their phone and broaden the choice of handsets we can offer consumers."
The addition of HSPA phones will allow Koodo customers with a SIM card equipped handset to use their phone in over 200 countries. Over the coming months, Koodo says it will launch a number of HSPA phones that offer social media connectivity.
